There is no evidence linking the Americas (or any other land) to the Book of Mormon. None. Any attempts to do so have been the same as trying to prove the Hobbit actually occurred in New Zealand.

I lived in both states for extended periods of time. For me the differences seemed to be more of Utah vs California state thing more than anything. Honestly, if anything, I always felt those from Calif had the advantage of greater exposure to different cultures and were a bit more tolerant of stuff....

Regardless of how one feels about past efforts by the church to hide its history, The JSP is impressive. I own about half the volumes and hope to eventually collect the entire set.

Then there is the largest single group of Mormons. These are people who have no idea they are considered members by the church. The 100+ people I baptized on my mission decades ago are mostly in that group.
