Re: Lehi or Lehigh. Just another data point.

I am sure most already know this but the apocrypha in the Bible used by Smith had the name Nephi in it. Etymology of Nephi Based on a non-Latter Day Saint or secular perspective, hypotheses for the name's origin include: its appearance as a geographic name in 2 Maccabees of the Apocrypha ("And Neemi...

Re: Skousen & McGuire apologetics on the Book of Abraham.

Ben is giving me a headache He latest contribution on the MAD board "1: In their original context, I don't think that there was anything to do with Abraham on the papyri. I think that we could speculate endlessly about why Joseph Smith connected the papyri to Abraham - but, once he did so, he repur...

Re: Beastie and argument for horses in the Book of Mormon.

There is no evidence linking the Americas (or any other land) to the Book of Mormon. None. Any attempts to do so have been the same as trying to prove the Hobbit actually occurred in New Zealand.

I think the bigger issue is why are they building these Temples when the membership is in decline.

Re: So California Mormons vs Utah (et al) Mormons

I lived in both states for extended periods of time. For me the differences seemed to be more of Utah vs California state thing more than anything. Honestly, if anything, I always felt those from Calif had the advantage of greater exposure to different cultures and were a bit more tolerant of stuff....

Regardless of how one feels about past efforts by the church to hide its history, The JSP is impressive. I own about half the volumes and hope to eventually collect the entire set.

Re: The 4 types of LDS Mormons

Why would you baptize someone without teaching them the lessons, not to mention not even letting them know it meant membership in the church?? Most people I taught got at least one lesson + the baptism discussion, and I am sure most of them knew that the baptism meant they were somehow members at t...

Re: The 4 types of LDS Mormons

Then there is the largest single group of Mormons. These are people who have no idea they are considered members by the church. The 100+ people I baptized on my mission decades ago are mostly in that group.
