Grey blue is what I see in real life. The yellowish is the bedroom light because it is night time. I'll take a picture in the day time.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 10:42 pmOn my screen the wall color looks like a grayish blue. I'm sure the color looks different in real life but the wallpaper looks like a definite match!! Well done!!

Re: Art, Crafts, and DIY
So. I had a week's notice for the inspection. In the contract they need to give 24h notice. They seem to fix things without charging me. They charge the landlady. I did go halves on the hedge because it grew to 8ft and I couldn't cope with it so they got a person to come do it and I paid £100 towards the cost. I tend to fix things myself. Like the shed roof, I fixed that. I've fixed the washing machine before and changed the door sensor. They changed the letter box and didn't charge me when my kid broke it.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 8:02 amSo when you have an inspection do you have advanced notice or does the inspector come unannounced? Also if you need a plumber do you pay that or is that provided for? (You don't need to post personal details about your arrangement or circumstances!) I can understand what you mean about having your own sofa. Our first apartment we rented was also furnished. We literally owned nothing except for a stereo and our clothes at first! We paid extra each month for the furniture. So if we'd had children at the time, I would be worried about the condition of the furniture as well. When children are young they need to move and a sofa is so good for bouncing! Also there could be food spills. I absolutely get where you're coming from!IWMP wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 2:40 pm
They look so much bigger in the photos. They are very cool.
The wallpaper I ordered was damaged in transit so they are sending more out to me. Had an inspection today and I was worried but she was lovely and said we've looked after the house and we are good tenants. The best thing is I said about having the sofa removed so we can have our own and we will get it serviced and she said she is pretty sure we can have it removed and not need to service it but she's going to check. Would be amazing to not have to worry about the kids damaging it. All I do is worry about that thing. Still waiting for the plumber. Got a leaky pipe.![]()
Too bad on the damaged wallpaper. I don't know about you but when I get the urge to tackle a project I want to start right away! But...it's coming so you get a little extra time to think about anything else you want to do in your room!![]()
The couch does stress me out massively. We don't pay extra but we did live in a house once that charged extra for the furniture. The agency inspected Wednesday and they called and said the landlord would also like to come by. So we have another inspection on Monday.
The agency is the middle man. So I tell them issues and they have their contractors and they send quotes to the landlady and then they decide whether to give them to go ahead. I also pay rent to the agency and they pay the landlady. No idea if some of that goes to the agency. They manage the property.
I do lose motivation easily. I would have liked to have done the wallpaper by now. It arrived yesterday and I've cut 3 strips but only put one up. Going to leave it at one to see how it dries and whether it shrinks or not. It expanded a lot when I pasted it. I also need to work out if I need to paint white on the other walls if the blue shows through. I don't think it will. I need to paint the edges of the blue by the ceiling. And I need like a dado rail or something to go between the paper and the paint.

Re: Art, Crafts, and DIY
Landlady and landlord came by. Did not understand them and they didn't understand me. But they were lovely. They eventually got someone on the phone to translate. So I didn't go through everything with them and they hadn't received the report. But I did ask if we can have the sofas taken away and if they wanted them and they didn't want them and were happy for us to do that. So now the kids can jump and I can relax haha. Next step is to find a sofa we like. I'd like a corner sofa but this means that I can't rearrange the room every 5 minutes because I'm pretty sure there is only one position that it would work in and that does still involve having large space behind. I have face pain today. Very intense face pain. Going to give it til tomorrow morning and if it's not settling, I'll see a Dr just to check inside my ear. My ear, neck, cheekbone, jaw and up the side of my head and burning. No fever or anything like that. I have trigeminal neuralgia so it's not a hospital trip.

I'm impressed that you fixed all those things! Your letter box is on the front door there, right? If so, I had one like that in my growing up home in Jersey.IWMP wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 10:56 pmSo. I hope you get the ok to get your own couch so you don't have to worry about damage! I don't know if we have furnished apartments here any more or not.The couch does stress me out massively. I get it now. So yeah, I'm sure the agency does get part of the proceeds from rent. They would over here. Not sure about the UK.The agency is the middle man. I bet when you got the idea and settled on a pattern, you would have started the wallpaper the day it was delivered if only it weren't damaged in transit! That's how I would be. I'm going to send you a link elsewhere. You'll find it eventually!I do lose motivation easily. I would have liked to have done the wallpaper by now. Were the landlady/landlord Pakistani or close to that? That's good you could get a translator going and it went smoothly! And your kids get to bounce on the old sofa!IWMP wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 12:53 pmLandlady and landlord came by. Did not understand them and they didn't understand me. But they were lovely. I hope by now you got some pain management going. Good grief between the two of us it's a LOT of ups and downs! You have to be thankful for the good days and do what you can manage! <3 <3 <3

I want to say regarding cutting dies. They're a TOTAL addiction. I've got some more coming. Fortunately they aren't very pricey and you get to use scraps from your stash so it's not an expensive addiction. As I'm using them I'm thinking of more ideas and that's why there are more coming. The good part is that I can use them to make things for friends and family, and create items to sell---and make my money back on them. I do that all the time. I won't buy anything (tools, etc.) unless I think I have a good chance of making my money back on those things which I usually do if my prices are reasonable.
I've got left over inventory from the last sale. They're getting ready for the upcoming spring show which I don't sell in but I AM going to order new bar codes now on the existing inventory for fall so I can lower the prices a bit. See how that goes. Then in fall it's just order bar codes for new inventory. That should make it easy for me. I'm working off a kind of menu right now for crafting so I can craft when I feel like it (snow/warm weather) and have a plan that will allow me to slip right into the fall show.

Yeah. The letter box is in the middle of the door, they pulled the inner flap off and I couldn't work out which I needed to replace it so I called for advice and they put a thing on for free that's like a brush. I'm not a fan because I feel cold air come in but it's better than nothing. I think I'd prefer a post box.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 4:59 amI'm impressed that you fixed all those things! Amazing now that I think about it. The best thing was wall to wall shag carpeting. I grew up poor and never in my life lived in a home with any kind of carpeting except a bath mat. I thought I died and went straight to heaven! I used to vacuum it every day just to keep it pretty!

I think I would have done more. I did one strip to see how it looked and stopped lol. I am in a sort of low energy state but probably to do with pain. I'm learning to stop and recover. I probably have ADHD. The pain management nurses said it sounds like I do.

I believe they are Chinese. I did use my hands a lot. She asked about the piano and I said my children play. And I sort of did a violin playing sign when talking about violin and she did it back to say her children play violin too. I wasn't able to tell her the issues with the house but to be honest the only issue that I can't deal with is the moisture. I'll be doing the pointing outside this year. I plan to put shelves up. Jet wash the drive.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 5:07 amWere the landlady/landlord Pakistani or close to that? That's good you could get a translator going and it went smoothly! I considered a sectional sofa but like you, I want to rearrange things. Can't stand not having a choice!
(When we lived in Germany the landlord's teenage daughter used to come down and visit me with a bottle of wine. She spoke English fairly well and I spoke some German (High German so I didn't know the dialect she spoke) but we'd sit there with a translation dictionary and talk to each other! After some wine we'd be laughing at our mistakes! A lot of hand signs going on!
)
I hope by now you got some pain management going. Good grief between the two of us it's a LOT of ups and downs! You have to be thankful for the good days and do what you can manage! <3 <3 <3
I think I could put a small corner sofa in and be able to put it two different ways but I would be having empty spaces but my daughter loves when the couch is in the bay window because she builds a den behind it. I'm not going to rush into it because I want to get passports sorted before I think too much about other things.
There's still pain. Think I'll see if the pharmacy can have a look. They can now check minor common things and treat them.
I always have pain. Like right now my right knee and hip are burning. I have a headache and earache and face pain and tingling. The leg pain is my normal. But I think I have probably adjusted. I can't imagine what it feels like to have no pain. But I do do too much on my good days and then I'm knackered again lol.
