I didn't even know it existed until now. I think it could be used for any typical sports injury or strain as well.

The ice chest on ours is smaller. We put it on one of my big heavy duty plant pot rollers so we can move it from room to room. Pull it from the hose like walking a dog.

Haven't seen any with a wheel package which would be the only product improvement I can think of so far.
I used one of these to recover from a tibial plateau fracture. Highly recommend. 5 stars. They work great. Have 10 water bottles in rotation for a 24 hour cycle. I used a thin towel on the skin between the water pack and wrapped it tight during the day and a bit looser at night. It is a game changer.
Yes, we do the same exact thing. Thin kitchen towel over the area and definitely looser overnight. It made everything easier and the swelling is minimal. I viewed several images of post op swelling for TKR. He doesn't have that at all.

TKR Surgery Progress.

Surgery was nearly two weeks ago on a Thursday. Tomorrow is Thursday so about 2 weeks out. Signs of progress, increasing self help, and abilities.

1. In and out of bed without assistance.
2. Shower without assistance.
3. Toileting without assistive equipment. Decided that raised toilet seat wasn't important by about Day 2.
3. Bending the surgery knee increasing range more each day.
4. Walking with a walker part time.
5. Walking with a cane part time.
6. Moving and refilling the cooling machine.
7. Standing, balancing on two feet, (and some walking) without assistive equipment.
8. Make small meals independently and feeding the cat.
9. Reduction in pain meds.
10. Virtually no swelling.

All things considered I'd say that's pretty darn good progress for just about 2 weeks out!

I don't know if another patient would progress at this or a similar rate but if anyone here needs an idea of what to expect at least this can serve as a map of one patient report for consideration.

Thank you, Whiskey! Finding out that healing is an up and down situation. The overall trajectory here has been consistently trending upward.

Your encouragement is greatly appreciated!

I certainly think so but you can't really compare different types of surgery. PT is really manhandling him now so he feels miserable with stiffness and pain the next day...then the day after that he suddenly feels better than before. I guess that is how the healing progresses in this case.

I'll give an update tomorrow after PT so I can include his "angles" that she measures.

I couldn’t walk for 12 weeks with a tibial plateau fracture. Hell, I thought it was progress just to set up my own cooler. It is shocking what we take for granted when it is all taken away. The steps back to normal just need to be steady.

Whiskey did you have someone to help you at home during your recovery?

So...PT is working him super hard right now. Tomorrow he'll probably need the ice/cooling machine and if it goes anything like last Thursday, he'll feel noticeably better by Wednesday. I couldn't believe didn't get his angles. :o That's his report card! I'll remind him on Thursday.

To add to the above list of returning self help skills.

11. Can dress himself head to toe...even the dreaded TED hose. Occasionally asks me to do the TED the next day after PT.

12. He "lowered" the temp of the cooling machine by keeping the water cool and only changing out 1 frozen water bottle instead of the 5 we were doing.

13. Almost no pain meds at all except after a hard PT session then only at night.

He thinks he's going to be able to drive next week. I disagree. Low end is 4 weeks out. We'll just see how that goes. Probably wants to get away from me. 8-)

This is not an easy recovery. I'd put it somewhere between spine and hip. Hip being the easiest, quickest, and smoothest recovery. Spine being the absolute living hell hardest.

I did. My wife took the bulk of the inconvenience. My kids came by and helped with the house and the dogs and stuff.

Once I got out of the wheelchair, the progress got steadily better. Being bed and wheelchair bound for that long wore my wife out.
