And don't forget that we owe to the Indians the invention of the zero and the place value numerical notation system without which modern science and technology would probably have been impossible!
Thanks for this. Apparently M likes to pigeon hole people. I find that the spiritual in India tend to teach peace and tolerance. Something I find enlightening and not backwards.
Buddha emerged from Brahmism and rejected the caste system and many of the other worst practices. There's no reason "peace and tolerance" requires abusing women. I make no judgment of the people and there are certainly some positive aspects to the culture. But the negatives far outweigh the positives.

That they tend to teach peace and tolerance is not the backward part of their society. The backward part is their over emphasis the "inner life", too often to the exclusion of practical, demonstrable reality, as Maksutov and DrW described. There is really no question that this has tended to hold them back and helped keep them in poverty. Of course ruthless exploitation of them by Western colonial powers has probably had a lot to do with that as well.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

To a people who believe this is but a temporary stopover it makes perfect sense. To feed the spirit is more important than to feed the body. This is a choice that people make. I understand it is not your choice. They had a chance to live under the British Government for some time. I think they chose wisely and have cast out western idols.

I suspect Franktalk feeds his body just fine.

But that is exactly what you have done. You have accepted some mortals explanation of the truth claims and how they want you to interpret sensations being from God.

We all make decisions for ourselves. Problems arise when we try and force others to do what we wish them to do. The whole pack of you telling others to conform to your ways is just wrong.

Franktalk attempts to justify his anti-educational stance.
