Well, I would hope that your judgments were centered around the well being of your child. There are many (way too many) men using their claimed connections with God to take sexual advantage of young girls, young boys, women and men.

I could give you a very long list of people like that. Hardly a week goes by without some national or international news story of an Evangelist Minister, Clergyman or Priest being charged with child molestation.

Why? They haven't asked to marry my daughters, but even if they had - I would give them the advice I would think all any good father would. That is, if God wishes you to marry such a man, then God can appear and tell you that. Otherwise he is a liar and you should get as far away from such a person as you can.

Tobin, you are the only person I've chatted with in my very long life that would tell their children that God would appear to them and tell them who to marry. Whatever else, you're unique.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I think it is a direct solution to a direct problem. If a man claims to be commanded by God to take more than one wife and wishes to marry your daughter, then God can show up and state that is true to your daughter as well. Otherwise, that man is a liar and should not be believed.

Tobin, I don't know why these other posters are going all Puritan on you.

by the way, did these non-sexual marriages/liaisons with married women tend to render those previous marriages all asunder?

In this life, no. And since most puritans don't believe that one is married after this life, who cares?!?

I've never been called a Puritan. I have been called many other things, though.

Tomorrow, I'm going shopping for a hat with a buckle on it.

Hope to see you in Salem and maybe we can hoist a tankard and perhaps roast a few cats.

In this life, no.

So the previous marriages remained intact, despite the concomitant non-sexual involvement with the Prophet? I thought these marriages that God had joined together were torn asunder by the Praised Man. For instance, what became of the talented, much desired and already married Zina?

What about Zina? What BY did was wrong in my view. But that wasn't the first nor last thing I believe he did and said that wasn't appropriate.
