Wait. You think the idea that some were gathered by sevens instead of by twos means that they would not have gone through a genetic bottleneck? :surprised: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Luke 2:1-52

And so it occurred that Emperor Augustus issued an order a census conducted throughout the Empire.

This registration, the first of its kind, took place when Cyrenius governed in Syria.

Everyone went to be registered, each to his hometown.

So Joseph, being a descendant of David, went up from the town of Nazareth of Galilee to the town of David, called Bethlehem, in Judea,

to register, with Mary, to whom he was engaged, and who was pregnant.

While they were there, the moment arrived for her to give birth;

and she gave birth to her 1st Child, a Son. She wrapped Him in cloth and placed Him down in a feeding trough, because there was no space for them in the living-quarters.

In the countryside nearby were some shepherds spending the night in the fields, guarding their flocks,

when an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the Glory of the Lord shone about them. They were terrified.

However, the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, because I am here announcing to you Good News that will bring great joy to all the people.

This very day, in the town of David, there was born for you a Deliverer who is the Messiah, the Lord.

Here is how you will know: you will find the Baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a feeding trough.”

Suddenly, along with this angel was a vast army from heaven praising God:

“In the highest heaven, glory to God! And on earth, peace among people of good will!”

Immediately after the angels left them and receaded back into heaven than the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go over to Bethlehem and see this happening, that the Lord has told us about.”

Quickly, they came and found Mary, Joseph. And the Baby was lying in the feeding trough.

Upon this observation, they explained what they had been told about this Child;

and all who heard were amazed by what the shepherds said.

Mary remembered all these things and kept mulling them over in her heart.

Meanwhile, the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen; it had been exactly as they had been told.

On the eighth day, when it was time for His circumcision, He was named Jesus, which is what the angel had called him before his conception.

When the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they took Him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

(as it is written in The Lord's Law, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”)

and also to offer a sacrifice of a pair of doves or two young pigeons, as required by the Lord's Law.

There was in Jerusalem a man named Simon. This man was righteous and devout. He waited eagerly for God to comfort Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.

Motivated by the Spirit, he went into the Temple courts; and when the parents brought in the Child Jesus to do what the Law required,

Simon took him in his arms, made a blessing to God, and said,

“Now, Lord, according to your word, your servant is at rest as he nears his departure;

for I have seen with my own eyes Your Salvation,

which you prepared in the presence of all peoples —

a light that will bring revelation to the gentiles and glory to your people Israel.”

Jesus' father and mother marveled at the things Simon was saying about Him.

Simon blessed them and said to the Child’s mother, Mary,

“This child will cause many in Israel to fall and to rise. He will become a sign whom people will speak against;

moreover, a sword will pierce your own heart too. All this will occurred in order to reveal many people’s inmost thoughts.”

There was also a prophet the daughter of Phanuel named Hannah, of the tribe of Asher. She was a very old woman — she had lived with her husband 7 years after her marriage

and had stayed a widow ever since; now she was 84. She never left the Temple grounds but worshiped there night and day, fasting and praying.

She came by at that moment and began thanking God and speaking about the child to everyone who was waiting for Jerusalem to be liberated.

When Joseph and Mary had finished doing everything required by the Lord's Law, they returned to the Galilee, to their town Nazareth.

The Child grew and became strong and filled with wisdom — God’s favor was upon him.

Yearly Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Pesach.

When Jesus was 12 years old, they went up for the feast, as custom required.

But afterwards, when His parents returned, Jesus remained in Jerusalem. They didn’t know this;

supposing that He was somewhere in the caravan, they spent a whole days journey before they began searching for Him among their relatives and friends.

Failing to find Him, they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.

On the 3rd day they found him — he was sitting in the Temple court among the rabbis, not only listening to them but questioning what they said;

and everyone who heard him was astonished at his insight and his responses.

When His parents found Him, they were shocked; and his mother said to him, “Son! How could you do this to us? Your father and I have been terribly worried looking for you!”

He said to them, “Why did you have to seek Me? Didn’t you know that I had to be concerning myself with My Father’s affairs?”

But they were clueless at what he meant.

So He traveled with them to Nazareth and was obedient to them. But His mother remembered all these things in her heart.

And Jesus grew both in wisdom and in stature, gaining favor both with other people and with God.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world be enrolled --

2 this enrollment first came to pass when Cyrenius was governor of Syria --

3 and all were going to be enrolled, each to his proper city,

4 and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,

5 to enroll himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child.

6 And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth,

7 and she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and wrapped him up, and laid him down in the manger, because there was not for them a place in the guest-chamber.

8 And there were shepherds in the same region, lodging in the field, and keeping the night-watches over their flock,

9 and lo, a messenger of the Lord stood over them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they feared a great fear.

10 And the messenger said to them, `Fear not, for lo, I bring you good news of great joy, that shall be to all the people --

11 because there was born to you to-day a Saviour -- who is Christ the Lord -- in the city of David,

12 and this [is] to you the sign: Ye shall find a babe wrapped up, lying in the manger.'

13 And suddenly there came with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,

14 `Glory in the highest to God, and upon earth peace, among men -- good will.'

15 And it came to pass, when the messengers were gone away from them to the heavens, that the men, the shepherds, said unto one another, `We may go over indeed unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that hath come to pass, that the Lord did make known to us.'

16 And they came, having hasted, and found both Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger,

17 and having seen, they made known abroad concerning the saying spoken to them concerning the child.

18 And all who heard, did wonder concerning the things spoken by the shepherds unto them;

19 and Mary was preserving all these things, pondering in her heart;

20 and the shepherds turned back, glorifying and praising God, for all those things they heard and saw, as it was spoken unto them.

21 And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the child, then was his name called Jesus, having been so called by the messenger before his being conceived in the womb.

22 And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present to the Lord,

23 as it hath been written in the Law of the Lord, -- `Every male opening a womb shall be called holy to the Lord,'

24 and to give a sacrifice, according to that said in the Law of the Lord, `A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.'

25 And lo, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name [is] Simeon, and this man is righteous and devout, looking for the comforting of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him,

26 and it hath been divinely told him by the Holy Spirit -- not to see death before he may see the Christ of the Lord.

27 And he came in the Spirit to the temple, and in the parents bringing in the child Jesus, for their doing according to the custom of the law regarding him,

28 then he took him in his arms, and blessed God, and he said,

29 `Now Thou dost send away Thy servant, Lord, according to Thy word, in peace,

30 because mine eyes did see Thy salvation,

31 which Thou didst prepare before the face of all the peoples,

32 a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Thy people Israel.'

33 And Joseph and his mother were wondering at the things spoken concerning him,

34 and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, `Lo, this [one] is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against --

35 (and also thine own soul shall a sword pass through) -- that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.'

36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, she was much advanced in days, having lived with an husband seven years from her virginity,

37 and she [is] a widow of about eighty-four years, who did depart not from the temple, with fasts and supplications serving, night and day,

38 and she, at that hour, having come in, was confessing, likewise, to the Lord, and was speaking concerning him, to all those looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

39 And when they finished all things, according to the Law of the Lord, they turned back to Galilee, to their city Nazareth;

40 and the child grew and was strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

41 And his parents were going yearly to Jerusalem, at the feast of the passover,

42 and when he became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,

43 and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and his mother did not know,

44 and, having supposed him to be in the company, they went a day's journey, and were seeking him among the kindred and among the acquaintances,

45 and not having found him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking him.

46 And it came to pass, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them,

47 and all those hearing him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48 And, having seen him, they were amazed, and his mother said unto him, `Child, why didst thou thus to us? lo, thy father and I, sorrowing, were seeking thee.'

49 And he said unto them, `Why [is it] that ye were seeking me? did ye not know that in the things of my Father it behoveth me to be?'

50 and they did not understand the saying that he spake to them,

51 and he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and he was subject to them, and his mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,

52 and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and men.

10,000 individuals constitutes a bottleneck that can be seen in (present) genetics of populations.

With god there are lots of imagined possibilities. With scientific research there are constraints on what is or can be considered real or historical.

Luke 3:1-38

During the 15th year of Emperor Tiberius' rule, when Pontius Pilate was governor over Judea and Herod was ruler over Galilee (Herod's brother Philip was ruler over Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was ruler over Abilene)

during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas—God’s word came to Zecharias' son John in the wilderness.

John journeyed throughout the region of the Jordan River, telling people to be baptized to show that they were changing their hearts and lives and desired God to forgive their sins.

This happened as it was written in the scroll containing the words of Isaiah the prophet,

A voice crying out in the wilderness: “Prepare the way for the Lord! Make his paths straight! Every valley will be filled in, and every mountain and hill will be leveled.

The twisted will be straighten out and the rocky places smoothed out.

All humanity will witness God’s salvation.”

Then John informed the crowds that came to be baptized by him, “You children of vipers! Who warned you to escape from the angry judgment that is coming soon?

Produce fruit that shows you have changed your hearts and lives. And don’t even imagine saying to yourselves, "Well, Abraham is our father." I tell you that God is able to create Abraham’s children from these stones.

The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be chopped down and burned.”

The crowds asked him, “Whatever should we do?”

He answered, “Whoever has two shirts must share with the one who has none, and whoever has food must do the same.”

Even tax collectors came to be baptized. They said to him, “Rabbi, whatever should we do?”

John replied, “Collect no extra than you are authorized to collect.”

Soldiers asked, “How about us? What should we do?”

John answered, “Don’t cheat or harass anyone, and be satisfied with your pay.”

The people were filled with expectation, and everyone wondered whether John might be the Messiah.

John informed them all, “I baptize you with water, but the one who is so much more powerful than I is on the way. I’m not worthy to even loosen the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

The shovel He uses to sift the wheat from the husks is in his hands. He will clean out his threshing area and bring the wheat into His barn. But He will burn the husks with a fire that is eternal.”

With many other words John appealed to them, proclaiming good news to the people.

But Herod the ruler had been harshly reprimanded by John concerning Herodias, Herod’s brother’s wife, and because of all the evil he had done.

Herod also added to this list evil deeds ------ by throwing John into prison.

When everyone was being immersed, Jesus also was immersed. While he was praying, heaven was torn open,

and the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus in the shape of a dove. And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness.”

Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his ministry. People presumed that He was the son of Joseph son of Heli (Since there was no Greek word for “son-in-law,” Joseph was called the “son of Heli” by marriage to Mary, Heli’s daughter. This is taken by most conservatives to be the linage of Mary).

son of Matthat son of Levi son of Melchi son of Jannai son of Joseph

son of Mattathias son of Amos son of Nahum son of Esli son of Naggai

son of Maath son of Mattathias son of Semein son of Josech son of Joda

son of Joanan son of Rhesa son of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel son of Neri

son of Melchi son of Addi son of Cosam son of Elmadam son of Er

son of Joshua son of Eliezer son of Jorim son of Matthat son of Levi 30 son of Simeon son of Judah son of Joseph son of Jonam son of Eliakim

son of Melea son of Menna son of Mattatha son of Nathan son of David

son of Jesse son of Obed son of Boaz son of Sala son of Nahshon

son of Amminadab son of Admin son of Arni son of Hezron son of Perez son of Judah 34 son of Jacob son of Isaac son of Abraham son of Terah son of Nahor

son of Serug son of Reu son of Peleg son of Eber son of Shelah

son of Cainan son of Arphaxad son of Shem son of Noah son of Lamech

son of Methuselah son of Enoch son of Jared son of Mahalalel son of Cainan

son of Enos son of Seth son of Adam son of God.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar -- Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother, tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene --

2 Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests -- there came a word of God unto John the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness,

3 and he came to all the region round the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation -- to remission of sins,

4 as it hath been written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, `A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths;

5 every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straightness, and the rough become smooth ways;

6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'

7 Then said he to the multitudes coming forth to be baptised by him, `Brood of vipers! who did prompt you to flee from the coming wrath?

8 make, therefore, fruits worthy of the reformation, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have a father -- Abraham; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise children to
Abraham;

9 and already also the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree, therefore, not making good fruit is cut down, and to fire it is cast.'

10 And the multitudes were questioning him, saying, `What, then, shall we do?'

11 and he answering saith to them, `He having two coats -- let him impart to him having none, and he having victuals -- in like manner let him do.'

12 And there came also tax-gatherers to be baptised, and they said unto him, `Teacher, what shall we do?'

13 and he said unto them, `Exact no more than that directed you.'

14 And questioning him also were those warring, saying, `And we, what shall we do?' and he said unto them, `Do violence to no one, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.'

15 And the people are looking forward, and all are reasoning in their hearts concerning John, whether or not he may be the Christ;

16 John answered, saying to all, `I indeed with water do baptise you, but he cometh who is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to loose the latchet of his sandals -- he shall baptise you with the
Holy Spirit and with fire;

17 whose winnowing shovel [is] in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather the wheat to his storehouse, and the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.'

18 And, therefore, indeed with many other things, exhorting, he was proclaiming good news to the people,

19 and Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him concerning Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, and concerning all the evils that Herod did,

20 added also this to all, that he shut up John in the prison.

21 And it came to pass, in all the people being baptised, Jesus also being baptised, and praying, the heaven was opened,

22 and the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily appearance, as if a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, saying, `Thou art My Son -- the Beloved, in thee I did delight.'

23 And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, son of Joseph,

24 the [son] of Eli, the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Janna, the [son] of Joseph,

Luke 4:1-44

Jesus, endwelled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. The Spirit took Jesus into the wilderness

where the devil accoasted Jesus for forty days like Israel’s forty years of testing in the wilderness. Jesus didn't eat during that time, and when those days concluded, He was famished [Ex. 34:28].

The devil said to Jesus, “If you are God's Son, command this rock to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures: ‘A person does not live on bread alone [Deut. 8:3].’”

Then the devil took Jesus up and revealed to Him all the kingdoms of the world instantly.

The devil said to Jesus, “I will give you all these kingdoms and all their might and splendor. Because it has all been handed over to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.

If you worship me, then it will all be yours.”

Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures: You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him [Deut. 6:13; 10:20].”

Then the devil led Jesus to Jerusalem and put him on the highest location of the Temple. He said to Jesus, “If you are God's Son, jump.

It is written in the Scriptures: He has put His angels in charge of caring for you guarding you carefully [Ps. 91:11].

It is also written: They will catch you in their hands so that you will not hit your foot or tumble over a rock [Ps. 91:12].”

Jesus answered, “But it also says in the Scriptures: ‘Do not tempt the Lord your God [Deut. 6:16].”

After the devil had accoasted Jesus in every way, He left him to wait until a better opportunity.

Jesus returned to Galilee empowered by the Holy Spirit, and the reports regarding Him spread all through the region.

He began to teach in their synagogues, and everyone acclaimed Him.

Jesus traveled to Nazareth, where he had grown up. On the Sabbath day he went to the synagogue, as he always did, and stood up to read.

The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was presented to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this is written:

“The Lord has put His Spirit in Me, because He appointed me to proclaim the ·Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty for the prisoners and to tell the blind that they can see again [Is. 61:1]. God sent Me to free the oppressed; [Is. 58:6]

and to proclaim the moment when the Lord will show his kindness.”

Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the synagogue attendant, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue watched Jesus closely.

He began to say to them, “While you heard these words just now, they are being fulfilled!”

All the people spoke well of Jesus and were amazed at His gracious words. They asked, “Isn’t this but Joseph’s son?”

Jesus said to them, “No doubt you will quote to me this proverb: ‘Doctor, heal yourself.’ You want to say, ‘We heard about the things you did in Capernaum. Do those things here in your hometown!”

Then Jesus said, “I tell you a fact, a prophet is not appreciated in his hometown.

But I tell you factually, there were many widows in Israel during the time of Elijah. It did not rain in Israel for 3 1/2 years, and there was no food anywhere in the whole country [1 Kin. 17].

But Elijah was sent to none of those widows, only to a widow in Zarephath, a town in Sidon [ a Gentile city on the coast north of Israel].

And there were many lepers living in Israel during the time of the prophet Elisha. But none of them were cured; cleansed, only Naaman, who was Syrian. [2 Kin. 5].”

When all the people in the synagogue heard these things, they were furious.

They got up, drove Jesus out of town, and took him to the edge of the cliff on which the town was built. They planned to throw him over the cliff,

but Jesus passed through the crowd and went on his way.

Jesus went to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and on the Sabbath day, he taught the people.

They were shocked at his teaching, because he spoke with authority.

In the synagogue a man who had within him a deamon screamed loudly,

“Jesus of Nazareth! What do you want with us? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you are—God’s Holy One!”

Jesus reprimanded the evil spirit, “Be quiet! Come out of the man!” The demon threw the man down to the ground before all the people and then left the man without injury.

 Everyone was amazed and said to each other, “What does this mean? With authority and power He orders demons about.”

And so the news about Jesus spread to every place in the whole area.

Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.

He came to her side and commanded the fever to end. It left her, and immediately she got up and began to ready a meal.

When the sun desended, the people brought those who were sick to Jesus. Putting His hands on every sick person, He healed every single one of them.

Demons also came out of many people, screaming, “You are God's Son.” But Jesus reprimanded the demons and would not allow them to talk, because they knew Jesus was the Messiah.

At dawn, Jesus went to an isolated location, but the crowds were seeking Him. When they found Him, they tried to prevent Him from leaving.

But Jesus said to them, “I must preach concerning the good news to other towns, too. This is why I was sent.”

Then He continued preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, turned back from the Jordan, and was brought in the Spirit to the wilderness,

2 forty days being tempted by the Devil, and he did not eat anything in those days, and they having been ended, he afterward hungered,

3 and the Devil said to him, `If Son thou art of God, speak to this stone that it may become bread.'

4 And Jesus answered him, saying, `It hath been written, that, not on bread only shall man live, but on every saying of God.'

5 And the Devil having brought him up to an high mountain, shewed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,

6 and the Devil said to him, `To thee I will give all this authority, and their glory, because to me it hath been delivered, and to whomsoever I will, I do give it;

7 thou, then, if thou mayest bow before me -- all shall be thine.'

8 And Jesus answering him said, `Get thee behind me, Adversary, for it hath been written, Thou shalt bow before the Lord thy God, and Him only thou shalt serve.'

9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, `If the Son thou art of God, cast thyself down hence,

10 for it hath been written -- To His messengers He will give charge concerning thee, to guard over thee,

11 and -- On hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou mayest dash against a stone thy foot.'

12 And Jesus answering said to him -- `It hath been said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'

13 And having ended all temptation, the Devil departed from him till a convenient season.

14 And Jesus turned back in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a fame went forth through all the region round about concerning him,

15 and he was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he hath been brought up, and he went in, according to his custom, on the sabbath-day, to the synagogue, and stood up to read;

17 and there was given over to him a roll of Isaiah the prophet, and having unfolded the roll, he found the place where it hath been written:

18 `The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, Because He did anoint me; To proclaim good news to the poor, Sent me to heal the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives deliverance, And to blind receiving of
sight, To send away the bruised with deliverance,

19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.'

20 And having folded the roll, having given [it] back to the officer, he sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing on him.

21 And he began to say unto them -- `To-day hath this writing been fulfilled in your ears;'

22 and all were bearing testimony to him, and were wondering at the gracious words that are coming forth out of his mouth, and they said, `Is not this the son of Joseph?'

23 And he said unto them, `Certainly ye will say to me this simile, Physician, heal thyself; as great things as we heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country;'

24 and he said, `Verily I say to you -- No prophet is accepted in his own country;

25 and of a truth I say to you, Many widows were in the days of Elijah, in Israel, when the heaven was shut for three years and six months, when great famine came on all the land,

26 and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but -- to Sarepta of Sidon, unto a woman, a widow;

27 and many lepers were in the time of Elisha the prophet, in Israel, and none of them was cleansed, but -- Naaman the Syrian.'

28 And all in the synagogue were filled with wrath, hearing these things,

29 and having risen, they put him forth without the city, and brought him unto the brow of the hill on which their city had been built -- to cast him down headlong,

30 and he, having gone through the midst of them, went away.

31 And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbaths,

32 and they were astonished at his teaching, because his word was with authority.

33 And in the synagogue was a man, having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a great voice,

34 saying, `Away, what -- to us and to thee, Jesus, O Nazarene? thou didst come to destroy us; I have known thee who thou art -- the Holy One of God.'

35 And Jesus did rebuke him, saying, `Be silenced, and come forth out of him;' and the demon having cast him into the midst, came forth from him, having hurt him nought;

36 and amazement came upon all, and they were speaking together, with one another, saying, `What [is] this word, that with authority and power he doth command the unclean spirits, and they come forth?'

37 and there was going forth a fame concerning him to every place of the region round about.

38 And having risen out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon, and the mother-in-law of Simon was pressed with a great fever, and they did ask him about her,

39 and having stood over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her, and presently, having risen, she was ministering to them.

40 And at the setting of the sun, all, as many as had any ailing with manifold sicknesses, brought them unto him, and he on each one of them [his] hands having put, did heal them.

41 And demons also were coming forth from many, crying out and saying -- `Thou art the Christ, the Son of God;' and rebuking, he did not suffer them to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.

42 And day having come, having gone forth, he went on to a desert place, and the multitudes were seeking him, and they came unto him, and were staying him -- not to go on from them,

43 and he said unto them -- `Also to the other cities it behoveth me to proclaim good news of the reign of God, because for this I have been sent;'

44 and he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Luke 5:1-39

One day while Jesus was standing beside Sea of Galilee, many people were crowding around Jesus to hear the word of God.

Jesus observed 2 boats along the shore. The fishermen had left them and were washing their nets.

Jesus stepped into one of the boats, the one that belonged to Simon Peter, and asked him to push off a little from the shore. Then Jesus sat down and continued to teach the people from the boat.

When Jesus had finished speaking, He told Simon, “Take the boat into deep water, and let down your nets in the water to catch some fish.”

Simon replied, “Master, we labored intensively all night trying to catch fish, and caught nothing. But because you say to put the nets in the water, so I will.”

When the fishermen did as Jesus told them, they caught so many fish that the nets began to rip.

They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They came and filled both boats so full that they were almost swamped.

When Simon Peter saw what had happened, he bowed down at the knees of Jesus and said, “Leave me, Lord. I am a sinful man!”

He and the other fishermen were amazed at the many fish they caught, as were

Simon’s partners --- Zebedee's sons James and John.

Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you will catch people.”

When the men brought their boats ashore, they left everything and followed Jesus.

When Jesus was in one of the towns, there was a man covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell on his face before him and implored Him, “Lord, you can make me clean if you are willing.”

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man and said, “I Am willing. Be cleansed!” Immediately all signs of the disease disappeared.

Then Jesus commanded, “Don’t tell anyone about this, but go and get examined by the priest and offer a sacrafice for your healing, as Moses commanded [Lev. 14:1–32]. This will show the people what I have accomplished.”

But the news about Jesus spread even more. Many great crowds came to hear Jesus and to be healed of their sicknesses;

however, Jesus often slipped away to be alone so he could pray.

One day as Jesus was teaching the people, the Pharisees and teachers of the law from every town in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem were there. The power of the Lord was upon Jesus to heal people.

Just then, some men were carrying on a mat a paralyzed man. They tried to bring him in and place him down before Jesus.

But because there were so many people there, they could not enter. So they went up on the roof and lowered the man on his mat through the ceiling into the middle of the crowd right before Jesus.

Witnessing their faith, Jesus said, “·Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

The Jewish teachers of the law and the Pharisees began reasoning to themselves, “Who is this man who is speaking as if He were God? Who can forgive sins except God alone? [Is. 43:25].”

But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said, “Why are you thinking this?

Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’?

But I will prove to you that the Son of Man [Dan. 7:13–14] has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, stand up, take your mat, and go home.”

Immediately the man stood up before them, picked up his mat, and went home, praising God.

All the people were astounded and began to praise God. They were filled with a high regard and said, “Today we have seen amazing events!”

After this, Jesus left and found a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax collector’s stall. Jesus said to him, “Follow me!”

So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him.

Then Levi gave a great banquet for Jesus at his house. Many tax collectors and other people were reclining around a low table.

But the Pharisees and their scribes began to complain to Jesus’ followers, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy people who need a doctor, but the sick.

I have not come to invite the righteous” who feel no need to repent but sinners to change their hearts and lives.”

They said to Jesus, “John the Baptizer's followers often fast and pray, just as the Pharisees. But your followers eat and drink continually.”

Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the friends of the bridegroom fast while He is still with them.

But the time will arrive when the bridegroom will be removed from them, and then they will fast.”

Jesus told them this parable: “No one removes cloth from a new garment to cover a hole in an old garment. If he does, he ruins tears the new garment, and the cloth from the new will not match the old.

Also, no one pours new wine into old leather bags. Otherwise, the new wine will burst; because the fermenting new wine expands the wineskins, the wine will spill out, and the leather bags will be ruined.

New wine must be put into ·new leather bags.

No one after drinking old wine immediately wants new wine, because he says, ‘The old wine is better.’”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And it came to pass, in the multitude pressing on him to hear the word of God, that he was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret,

2 and he saw two boats standing beside the lake, and the fishers, having gone away from them, were washing the nets,

3 and having entered into one of the boats, that was Simon's, he asked him to put back a little from the land, and having sat down, was teaching the multitudes out of the boat.

4 And when he left off speaking, he said unto Simon, `Put back to the deep, and let down your nets for a draught;'

5 and Simon answering said to him, `Master, through the whole night, having laboured, we have taken nothing, but at thy saying I will let down the net.'

6 And having done this, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes, and their net was breaking,

7 and they beckoned to the partners, who [are] in the other boat, having come, to help them; and they came, and filled both the boats, so that they were sinking.

8 And Simon Peter having seen, fell down at the knees of Jesus, saying, `Depart from me, because I am a sinful man, O lord;'

9 for astonishment seized him, and all those with him, at the draught of the fishes that they took,

10 and in like manner also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon; and Jesus said unto Simon, `Fear not, henceforth thou shalt be catching men;'

11 and they, having brought the boats upon the land, having left all, did follow him.

12 And it came to pass, in his being in one of the cities, that lo, a man full of leprosy, and having seen Jesus, having fallen on [his] face, he besought him, saying, `Sir, if thou mayest will, thou art able
to cleanse me;'

13 and having stretched forth [his] hand, he touched him, having said, `I will; be thou cleansed;' and immediately the leprosy went away from him.

14 And he charged him to tell no one, `But, having gone away, shew thyself to the priest, and bring near for thy cleansing according as Moses directed, for a testimony to them;'

15 but the more was the report going abroad concerning him, and great multitudes were coming together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities,

16 and he was withdrawing himself in the desert places and was praying.

17 And it came to pass, on one of the days, that he was teaching, and there were sitting by Pharisees and teachers of the Law, who were come out of every village of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem,
and the power of the Lord was -- to heal them.

18 And lo, men bearing upon a couch a man, who hath been struck with palsy, and they were seeking to bring him in, and to place before him,

19 and not having found by what way they may bring him in because of the multitude, having gone up on the house-top, through the tiles they let him down, with the little couch, into the midst before Jesus,

20 and he having seen their faith, said to him, `Man, thy sins have been forgiven thee.'

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, `Who is this that doth speak evil words? who is able to forgive sins, except God only?'

22 And Jesus having known their reasonings, answering, said unto them, `What reason ye in your hearts?

23 which is easier -- to say, Thy sins have been forgiven thee? or to say, Arise, and walk?

24 `And that ye may know that the Son of Man hath authority upon the earth to forgive sins -- (he said to the one struck with palsy) -- I say to thee, Arise, and having taken up thy little couch, be going on to thy house.'

25 And presently having risen before them, having taken up [that] on which he was lying, he went away to his house, glorifying God,

26 and astonishment took all, and they were glorifying God, and were filled with fear, saying -- `We saw strange things to-day.'

27 And after these things he went forth, and beheld a tax-gatherer, by name Levi, sitting at the tax-office, and said to him, `Be following me;'

28 and he, having left all, having arisen, did follow him.

29 And Levi made a great entertainment to him in his house, and there was a great multitude of tax-gatherers and others who were with them reclining (at meat),

30 and the scribes and the Pharisees among them were murmuring at his disciples, saying, `Wherefore with tax-gatherers and sinners do ye eat and drink?'

31 And Jesus answering said unto them, `They who are well have no need of a physician, but they that are ill:

32 I came not to call righteous men, but sinners, to reformation.'

33 And they said unto him, `Wherefore do the disciples of John fast often, and make supplications -- in like manner also those of the Pharisees -- but thine do eat and drink?'

34 And he said unto them, `Are ye able to make the sons of the bride-chamber -- in the bridegroom being with them -- to fast?

35 but days will come, and, when the bridegroom may be taken away from them, then they shall fast in those days.'

36 And he spake also a simile unto them -- `No one a patch of new clothing doth put on old clothing, and if otherwise, the new also doth make a rent, and with the old the patch doth not agree, that [is]
from the new.

37 `And no one doth put new wine into old skins, and if otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and itself will be poured out, and the skins will be destroyed;

38 but new wine into new skins is to be put, and both are preserved together;

39 and no one having drunk old [wine], doth immediately wish new, for he saith, The old is better.'

I suggest you get yourself a copy of the Bible. One should be easy to find at any area public library. The book of Luke has been divided into a total of 24 chapters --- by the way. :ugeek:
