At the time Section 124 was written did Joseph Smith know that the Nauvoo House was not going to be completed, etc.?

Joseph Smith didn’t KNOW what the future would hold put had personal visions and ambitions of what he wanted the future to be. He tendered an excuse for his prophetic failure of the building of the Missouri temple by pretending to speak for the Lord yet again. All of section 124 is Joseph Smith talking to himself.

Does that answer your question?

:D
A lot of prophets/mystics have been accused of that. 😉

One of the funniest papers I ever read, I think by Smoot or Muhlestein, kept stating that they were going to PROVE that Smith was a prophet. The eventual proof was a passage from the Book of Mormon alluding to a future prophet.

So, the apologist's 'proof' that Smith was a prophet was a passage, written by Smith himself, that stated that Smith would be a future prophet. Talk about talking to yourself! That's talking to yourself, by yourself, and about yourself! :D

This may be a little late; however, I just started posting today. Anyway, The ORIGINAL manuscript of the Book of Mormon would have been the "gold plates". What was stuck in the wall was a transcript of the original which obviously no longer exists anywhere convenient.

They then turn around and call that prophetic!

The prophet who prophesied of himself was not prophetic enough to realize that placing a paper manuscript inside the hole of exterior stonework would eventually rot and come to naught. The prophetic idea that he was creating a time capsule that would be preserved by God’s hand quickly turned to failure and proved it was not God’s idea but that of man. Smith was wrong. He underestimated and overestimated at the same time. His act was a total failure on his part. He was just as wrong about thinking his manuscript could survive as he was in thinking the papyri of Abraham & Joseph survived in an Egyptian tomb accompanied by royal mummies for some 3,500 years. Joseph Smith was wrong, wrong, wrong. Anyone with eyes half open can see it.

Bumped for Elizabeth to help her understand how Joseph Smith was playing God and that everything he ever said was always about him and how great he is in saving his people from their sins.

Yes, Joseph Smith became the NEW Jesus Christ manifested in mortal flesh for all to behold.

THAT is what Mormonism was all about.

Irony of ironies that Joe's original manuscript didn't even last 40 years. And Joe's god didn't see fit to warn him. Maybe a real creator exists and decided to poke fun at Joe's imposture.

It’s significant because 40 years is an important number in defining a biblical generation. It is ironic that the manuscript didn’t survive the generation but was eaten by the elements and let to rot within a breached box in which it was encased. Smith did not foresee that. Smith’s God had no way of knowing the manuscript was doomed to decay. The manuscript was doomed from the beginning and it was only by those who recovered it that there is anything left at all.

If only Joseph had known. But he didn’t! Neither did the Spirit! They failed to preserve the manuscript! And that failure was sealed by the Spirit of failure! So much for the trusty Spirit.

Dear Readers,

Is it possible that failure to preserve the original manuscript leading to an ultimate demise through deterioration is a spiritual sign that the book was truly a fraud and a work of 19th century fiction? Could it be that invisible spiritual influences and forces that operate in our universe dumped the manuscript into a heap of decay because that best describes the authenticity of a work that is nothing more or less than a lie?

I know the Book of Mormon is a lie and testify by my own reading and understanding that the contents of that book are fraudulent and untrue.

I know that, absolutely.

Amen.
