It's the little things that make life worth living

Post by _Runtu »

I just had a pleasant conversation with my youngest:

Son: What are all these Christmas cookies for?
Me: They are for eating.
Son: Do I have to wait until after dinner?
Me: No.
Son (eyes going wide): You mean I can eat them whenever I want?
Me: Yep.

Son runs off to get some cookies and then suddenly runs back.

Son: Dad, do you want a cookie, too?

I don't know why, but the sweetness of a child just warms my heart. I'm glad I'm a parent.

Thanks, Runtu. That brought a smile to my face.

If I celebrate anything this time of year it is the love of my six children and four grand-children.

All the best to you and everyone on this board!

Family is a beautiful thing. Runtu, sounds like you're raising a wonderful little one, as there are many in this day and age who would have never asked. Kudos.

Thanks Runtu

Yesterday, my 2 1/2 year old grandson stopped by on his way home with his daddy, his momma, and his little brother. I was making Beer Bread cinnamon rolls. The conversation went like this:

Jacen: Help Gramma cook! (as he pushed a kitchen stool over to the counter and climbed up).
Me: okay, you stir this (handing him a fork to stir the flour and sugar)
Jacen: Help Gramma cook! (as he turned the bowl and stirred with all the vigor a 2 year old can muster)
Me: time to put in the yeast (opening the bottle of Coors)
Jacen: Help Gramma cook! (reaching out for the bottle)
Me: let me help you (putting his hands around the bottle and pouring it into the bowl)
Jacen: yeast! (watching is foam and bubble)
Me: I'll stir this in (good thing this part only takes a second)
Jacen: help Gramma cook!
Me: Now we knead (showing him how to press and turn the dough)
Jacen: Knead! (pressing down on the dough)
Me: okay, your turn (dusting with more flour and turning the dough)
Jacen: help Gramma cook! (pressing down on the dough)
Me: yes you are!
Jacen: sticky! (showing me his fingers covered with flour and sticky dough)
Me: I think Mom wants to see how you've helped Gramma (lifting him down from the stool. He ran to show his momma how he'd helped Gramma cook.)

This whole thing took 5 minutes. He was so proud of those rolls. They'll probably now be referred to as "Jacen's Rolls". And they really were yummy.

A little window into my life.

Thanks All! Kids are the greatest of all "God's" gifts! "We" are making them better than ever! If not...

My latest experience: In a theatre Men's Room last night i tried 3 paper towel dispensers before getting a towel out. A Dad and Son was going through the same process. The Dad like me having to go through 3. The Son found the little wheel that worked the mechanism. Black on black, old eyes ain't so good.

I thanked the boy for "showing-us-the-way". Dad half grinned. Boy seemed a bit reticent. And, how lucky we were that the "young generation is smarter than the old, cuz you gotta fix the world!" Dad grinned fully. And boy smiled widely as our eyes connected. Life IS good!
