The Testaments facade leans towards LGT?

Look at the Mayan temples at :53...
Check out the monkey at 3:36... no mention of monkeys in the Book of Mormon... full of monkey business, and monkey pooh, but no mention of em...
The USS Enterprise beams down Jebus at 1:48... right on the steps of the Mayan temple...
So if I have this right, DCP takes this movie as FACTUAL, but not September Dawn... no wonder he was called to be a bishop.

That Jesus bugs me-he's a 60's San Fransisco hippie.
Hey, look at his clothes compared to their's. They must have wondered why wasn't sweltering.
Looks like a basically a cheesy production.

Awful Sight..
The earth begins to shake terribly, the storm decends, my city takes fire. Homes/people burning, crushed under the walls of there own homes. Mountains heaving and moving from their foundations.
After 3 hours the earth is still. Yet it is not peaceful. The air is rent by the cries of the injured, the dieing and the hopeless - both young and old. The air is thick with the darkest of soot and ash that the old and injured are overcome.
On the third day the darkness disperses and though I would like to praise God for my sight, I discover myself covered in the soot, ash, mud and blood from the injured and the dead. I am nearly overcome by the unspeakable sight and pungant stench of bloated bodies of my family and friends strewn amidst the rubble of what was once my beautiful city. There is no clean water. I am an awful sight as well. Having crawled much through the darkness seeking out the injured from the dead.
"cut"
As I wait for the finishing touches on the set for the miracle as noted in Scene 11, I strole off to my air conditioned trailer for a shower, short game of UNO with the gaffers and a nap. Upon waking, I find that wardrobe has dropped off the cleaned and pressed authentic Mayan costume so I can look my best when the jerk that stole my part (the Savior) does the special effect deal on the temple prop. A quick primp of the hair and I'm ready to be the next Paul Newman -looking goooooooood.
(Anyone see the street shots of day 4 of the quake in Peru?)
Thanks for the thread PP. This has been eating at me for quite some time.

Man, yet again I'm reminded of the power of the Internet: Exposure to points of view I hadn't conceived of myself.
All those years as a Mormon--heck, even all these years as an ex-Mormon--and I'd never considered just how hungry those people must've been after three days of complete darkness. How would you hunt, gather, or otherwise find food under such conditions?

The thing that always struck me when I hear the three days of darkness idea is....
Here we have a society that was the experts of the experts when it came to anything astronomy. I mean these folks were the BEST!
They kept track of the skies like nobody's business. They had predictions going back thousands of years, and into the future until 2012. Some say their calendars were more accurate than ours today. They had several different calendars (possibly as many as seventeen), and they noticed literally everything in the skies.
Why is there no evidence of any three days of darkness.
I mean this surely would have been the most spectacular, noteable, "miraculous", event of all time.
The other point... In a discussion with Brant a few years ago, I asked him about the scriptures that discuss the return of Jesus... suggesting everyone, EVERYONE... Lamanites and Nephites were converted, (which of course doesn't fit into the LGT), he stated that there was a lot of "interpretative" license taken, and that it was really just a small group of folks who saw Jesus.
It just so doesn't fit.

It's a reference to the story in the Book of Mormon of Jesus visiting the Americas after his crucifixion. According to the Book of Mormon, when Jesus was crucified, there was three days of light-snuffing darkness in the Americas, along with vast destruction due to earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, all of which was ended by the resurrected Jesus visiting them.
Go to LDS.org, click on library, click on scriptures, and go to 3 Nephi chapter 8 to read about it.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Darkness was not an astronomical event in this case. Volcanic activity can spew soot and ash to such a degree that there is literally darkness until it is discipated by the wind and rain. This can last many days as witnessed by those within 500 miles of Mt. Saint Helens when it blew.
Catastrophic fire will also produce the same results.
20 And it came to pass that there was thick darkness upon all the face of the land, insomuch that the inhabitants thereof who had not fallen could feel the vapor of darkness;
21 And there could be no light, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches; neither could there be fire kindled with their fine and exceedingly dry wood, so that there could not be any light at all;
22 And there was not any light seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars, for so great were the mists of darkness which were upon the face of the land.
23 And it came to pass that it did last for the space of three days that there was no light seen; and there was great mourning and howling and weeping among all the people continually; yea, great were the groanings of the people, because of the darkness and the great destruction which had come upon them.
(Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 8:20 - 23)
Oh yeah. 3 days, no water, no food, tropical climate..good point.
I'll flame the testaments all day long. It was a lot of cheese like the Work and the Glory, Dramatized Scriptures and most everything else produced with the blessing of the hierarchy of power. However, the Book of Mormon account is indicitive of such cataclismic events.

Hi Inconceivable...
I understand your point. :-) I realize the darkness was not an astronomical event.
The Book of Mormon states that prior to the coming of Jesus, they kept their calendar/time by the reign of the judges, after the time of Jesus, they kept their time/calendar from his birth, (or appearance... I forget which one). But of all the Mayan calendars there is no evidence of this whatsoever. So, if, as the apologists claim, Jesus only really appeared to a virtual handful of people, there would still be a huge event experienced by the people.
I just find it odd that in a society that was so very observant and detailed regarding their calendars, dates, and cycles, such a huge event is completely absent from any record.
