When a religion modifies a statement in the slightest degree, it is seen as being an imposter.

Haven't these cultists ever read "The Great Apostasy" by James Talmage?

The Dude, the whole parking nazi thing so soured my attitude that for years afterward BYU moneygrubbers would call me up looking for donations and I would never give them one, and I was thinking about the exact same thing. Those parking nazis were just insane. You make the slightest mistake in parking somewhere and you were guaranteed to have a ticket on your window within seconds of getting out of sight.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

I'm agnostic. I believe that the Mormon prophets are fallible human beings who speak their opinions over the pulpit, basically what the apologists believe. I also believe knowledge within Mormonism comes the same way as it does in other organizations. That is, the men at the top meet regularly and make decisions that are in the best interests for the survival and growth of the organization.

I didn't mean in regards to Mormonism. What else interests you?

Are you really interested in this LOAP? If so then I suggest an Old Testament thread where you can get to know the interests of your fellow posters outside of Mormonism. I know SWSU and Sethbag gave some answers to you, but if I were going to answer more fully I'd want more space than this thread affords.

I'm starting such a thread now...see you there.

You guys too? Wow. On two occasions, and two only did I ever dare to get edgy with my parking, and you guessed it, on two occasions I got parking tickets. The first time I tried to fight it. I went into some room with a woman who was apparently trying to overcompensate for the fact that she'd never get the priesthood.

My worst experience was with the Provo police though. They chased me down and began threatening me. I was completely at a loss. It was only halfway through their hour long lecture to me that I realized what they were talking about. During a break, with not a single car in a parking lot, and no one to be seen, I spun my tires in a little patch that had oil buildup and some water - my car was slow, it was a joke (I was with a friend). While we were walking down the sidewalk, a very unattractive female started shouting something at us, we couldn't figure out what she was saying, so we just went our way. Apparently she called the cops. The cops, according to them spent a full hour investigating the crime scene. Then left, I guess. Cuz I was on my way out of Provo when they came for me. So basically Provo spent a full morning and at least two cops hot on the trail of a guy who spun his tires in some water with no one around.

I recounted the experience later that day to my neighbor who was an ex cop (LA cop, a real cop, not some Provo Mormon clown who could make more money and see more danger delivering pizzas) and he was getting pretty pissed about the tactics they used and thought I should report them. I didn't really care, no ticket or anything. Basically, after they interrogated me on my spirituality and the subject had turned to our missionary calls, they let us go.

The Provo cops questioned you on your spirituality? Wow, that's interesting. Obviously that would have been just them trying to act a little more informally with you and perhaps strike up a rapport, but when they've got the badges and guns, you're more or less a captive audience.

Other than the parking nazis, I really enjoyed my time at BYU. I was, of course, a TBM at the time. Other than being denied taking a test at the Testing Center a couple times because I hadn't shaved recently enough, I didn't have many problems with the thought police. The subjects I studied (physics, computer science, and German) were all non-religious in nature, so the education there was normal and not laden with LDSisms.

Of course, now that I no longer believe, I look at things like this Daily Unifarce editorial and am embarassed. I liked BYU while I was there, but I'm forever worried now that on my resume I'll be associated with this partisan for a false church. Fortunately, outside of the Morridor, few probably give the church and BYU much more than a second's thought, so perhaps it'll just forever slide in under the radar. Anyhow, I'm nearing completion of a master's degree through Boston University, and hopefully in the future people will read that and not pay much attention to the undergrad school.
