Academics for Apologetic's Sake-Ethical?

Post by _Bond...James Bond »

Just a thought I've been pondering...

Is it ethical to get become an academic just to legitimize one's apologetic defenses? Not just Mormons, but this is something you see with other religious people too. Get a degree in Biology to take on the Evolution debate. Get a degree in Astronomy or Geology to take on the Young Earth debate. Get a degree in Archaeology to take on Biblical Archaelogy debates. Get a degree in Hebrew to take on a translation debate. Get a degree in Egyptian to take on whatever debate. And so on and so forth. Is it ethical to get the Ph.D just so that someone can be an apologist for something that goes against what the majority of one's academic peers would agree with? Well...I think it would be hypocritical and devious, but that's me. What say you?
