It really depends of your contribution to this institution; ie if you are stupid enough not to ask an accounting.

Solo asks a good question Charity.

Charity, Have you ever asked for an accounting of the money you give? Where it went, how much was spent and what is the overall structure of debts and assets your ten percent has contributed to? Have you ever honestly made an accounting?

Where are Charity's comments? I see a question from Scottie, "How does financial disclosure open the door to destroying the religion? Why was this law enacted?"

Then I see solomarineris answer. Did I miss something?

No. Why should I? I trust the leaders to be using the money in valuable ways. I see where money is being spent--building and maintaining the ward I attend, supporting some people who need welfare help, building and supporting the temple I attend, supporting BYU which 4 of my children attended, supporting the missionary program where my grandson is now happily serving, providing humanitarian aid. I am sure there are others. Why should I demand to see dry pages of figures when I see the living results?

My responses on Scottie's thread were #3 and #5. I didn't see any other posts to respond to and not be redundant.

I certainly will not deny that the church does these things... it does great things, including everything you mentioned above (so do secular organizations, doctors without borders is one) But take a look at the financial disclosure website from the UK that was posted by Moniker in the other thread that was talking about this:

http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/re ... yno=242451

The income to expenditure ratio is incredible, especially 2006. I wish we could see these numbers for the U.S.

Individual units are not independent. Some individual units give more and require less back. So they do more in support than others who require more than they give. Tithing of the more affluent members of the Church helps support the less affluent. Do you really thing that the African Saints were able to contribute enough tithing to build the Ghana Temple?

Financial disclosure hardly ever seems an issue with members who are active in the church. In fact, I think that most active members never question where the money goes because they trust the church.

However, once a person begins to leave the church and then this individual latches into critic sites of the LDS church and read how the church does not disclose an itemize account of its money, sudddenly it becomes that person's bedbug. At least this is my observation.

In other words, most former members are disingenious over this issue.
