Lets assume that the First Presidency earns a salary much higher than the average member. Lets say, $500k/year.

Does anyone here doubt that they don't earn it? With all the hours that GBH puts in, does he NOT deserve a $2.5 million dollar, 24,000 sqft apartment in SLC? Same goes for the rest of the 15.

Do the leaders not deserve to have a few luxuries, such as nice cars and houses for the hundreds and hundreds of extra hours they work each year?

I honestly don't see them as spending excessively, with private Carribean islands, or million dollar yachts.

Do you think they should live more modestly, or are they entitled to a few perks?

They don't live much at all. It's hard to enjoy perks when your life is filled top to bottom with meetings and paperwork.

Absolutely grotesque, Scottie. The Latter-day Saints don't pay tithing so their leaders can live high on the hog. And isn't there a bit in LDS scripture against profiting from religion? I believe it's there termed "priestcraft."

I do not think they make that much but would not be all that troubled by it if they did.

The First Presidency are CEOs of a powerful corporation. I imagine their "salaries" are pretty modest in comparison to other CEOs.

I think the underlying issue in this isn't whether or not they deserve compensation. The issue is that the LDS church has always made a big deal of having an unpaid ministry, and has, in the past, insinuated paid ministers are in cahoots with satan. And, of course, the lack of transparency is the other issue.

Personally, I think all religions should be treated like any old corporation - and that means they should pay taxes like the rest of us.
