I don't see how it could possibly be wise to characterize this community, much less appear to be speaking for the community, as having attention spans ranging above 36 seconds to 8 minutes or less, to promote reading the most current response of a poster as a priority of the community in lieu of reading a series of exchanges that represent a discussion (on a discussion board) nor do I think that placing more value on smilies (to the tune of 8 pages) and shooting the s*** as representative of the focus of the entire community, over the substance contributed by an academic poster and chosing instead to fixate on color coding over the content or meaning of his words is, generally speaking, a smart thing to do. But it's a free speech board and you're welcome to your opinion.

My understanding is that Shades doesn't wish for this place to appear as a comic book (as in smilies) and I don't see him criticizing the posters who use color coding in their posts. JAK isn't the only poster who uses colors, by the way. JAK's remarks are that of a professional. You won't see him swear, rant or call charity a douchebag, nor will you see him make posts that require the attention of mod editing out profanity and such.

I can tell you from long years of experience (and some years were longer than others!) that JAK won't change the technique that he uses to engage on a board. He might refine it based on suggestions but, he won't throw out his technique in favor of shooting the s***.

There are those who view the exchanges on a board as a form of discussion/conversation/communication. Sometimes shooting the s*** and sometimes digging into a topic to learn, to teach, to refine one's thinking or position on such topics.

My best advice to you is to tell them to stop. Tell the person or person(s) who are holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read JAK's posts (or the lengthy posts of others) to put the gun down. I'm relatively certain they will meet your request. No need to edit your posts, the remarks you deleted were no more or less rude than the remainder of your post here.

Grumpy case of the ass much? Take it out on someone else.

So long as the welcome sign is up on this board, and people are subject to reading hit and run one liners that are posted just for fun, I think accomodations can be made for a poster who posts with serious intent.

Oh lord...so I'm the bad guy for not basking in JAK's "brilliant" posts and instead going for what's interesting (and fun) like smilies?

Well I'm done with this crap...but I do hope that you took notice of the cause and effect relationship between donating money and getting a feature you want.

Who in the living hell has said you're "the bad guy"? Good hell, Bond. Seriously! Nowhere here have I advised you to "bask" in any thing. I discussed the threaded view option with Shades a long time ago. I know that it can't be had with the donation of 20 dollars nor am I willing to let 20 bucks sit there waiting for others to ear mark donations for a threaded view option. You've told me nothing new in that regard.

Again, a threaded view option is just that. An option. I doesn't require the entire board to go threaded, it is an option wherein a poster can choose to view the forum in threaded or linear format.

Exactly correct about the “option” for threaded view. It’s particularly useful in BBs where there are many who participate. It allows for people to go directly to a comment by a particular individual and respond to that only.

The problem with the present format is as we have observed: The response may be many posts and even pages away from the very thing it is intended to address.

But I understand such a format might incur additional expense. I have never operated a BB and therefore am not informed about all that would be involved to re-structure an existing board. I can appreciate it would not be trivial.

It also might depend upon just what a person/participants want in a discussion bb.

It was settled, Joseph Smith plagiarized the KJV in the Book of Mormon. Where were you?

Man, I love potatoes. Fried, boiled, mashed, baked, au gratin, chips, tots---anything but funeral. Thanks pokatator for being such a good representative of tubers everywhere.

I must have missed it. When are you taking the show on the road, letting the LDS members know? Did you find a mauscript in Joseph Smith's hand complete with cross outs and rough drafts?
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

I have now scanned the Marquardt essay that identifies 200 anachronistic New Testament quotes in the Book of Mormon, if anybody's interested.
