I'm having a hard time seeing Monson as the Prophet

Post by _SatanWasSetUp »

I remember when Benson became prophet, and it was weird for a while because I never knew any prophet other than Kimball, but it didn't take long to get used to it. Then came Hunter. He took a little getting used to, but eventually he easily fit as the prophet. Maybe it's because I never saw them much until they became prophet. Then Hinckley, who immediately fit the prophet role for me. He seemed to be running the church for the last decade anyway, so it was a real smooth transition. I'm not getting the same feeling for monson. Obviously it's because I've apostacized since then, but still I just don't picture him as the guy running the show in SLC. Hinckley always seemed to be the guy in charge, but I don't get the same feeling for Monson. He was second fiddle to Hinckley for so long. He just seems more like a yes man to me than a leader. Do any TBMs have a more difficult time with this transition than with others?
"We of this Church do not rely on any man-made statement concerning the nature of Deity. Our knowledge comes directly from the personal experience of Joseph Smith." - Gordon B. Hinckley

"It's wrong to criticize leaders of the Mormon Church even if the criticism is true." - Dallin H. Oaks

I can't speak for the TBMs, but as for myself I can see any one of the suits in the top 15 running the LDS Church. The perception that there is a real difference is hard for me to muster these days. I am sure there is a big difference under the phony placidity of the surface, but since others rarely get to see beyond the facade...

Anyway, I generally like president Monson, and I was sick of Hinckley. Not that Hinckley was a bad guy. I was just ready for any slight change.
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”
