Sloppiness, plagiarism, an unwillingness to be bothered with details like sources (DCP's recent use of a grade school book instead of respected legal treatises), and a lack of effort in putting together the columns (some seemed to be mailed in), could have all factored into the decision to part ways.

Well we know that DCP claims to have been told by the person who let him go that a big part of the decision was because the Deseret News was dropping its "Faith" section. The "Faith" section is still alive and well.
