Sometimes it is downright depressing to see what misunderstanding and foolishness circulates among the creationists.
I have never heard one single anti-evolution argument that didn't depend on either lies or appeals to faulty intuition.
It seems that the public just isn't up to understanding science or thinking clearly on important scientific matters. On top of that preachers are demonizing science and lying about the science behind the closed doors of sunday school class.
How can proponents of science make the presentation of evolution understandable to an average person?
Well, occasionally there is a ray of hope.

Evolution
when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

I'm embarrassed for them, at times.

I try and recognize that if I don't understand something I should attempt to.

It seems to me that science is the single worst subject for students to understand, if I'm remembering the analysis of public education that I read some time ago. More students fail science than any other subject. Fewer teachers are qualified to teach it, and it's not going to get better any time soon, because teachers get paid so little in comparison with other professions. Who would want to be a teacher making $50,000 a year with a Masters degree, when you could be an engineer making $70,000 a year with a bachelor's?
No wonder the public doesn't get it, Tarski. Who's supposed to teach it to them?

Thanks for the topic, and the sites. There is little doubt in my mind that science is prevaliling over ignorance and fablism. Very few Christian extemists do not go to Hospital when their appendics calls for attention. They too enjoy the gadgets and toys that bring comfort and pleasure. Especially the younger emerging believers, who by their very natures express themselves in ways different from their parents & grand-parents, generally speaking.
I relate to the frustrations expressed when reading/listening to uninformed attempts to justify religious traditions... But, the tapes on You Tube demonstrate, as in the nylon-eater, nothing continues without decay/transformation working its thing. Thus we have survival by adaptation as we evolve through states of ignorance/understanding of life sciences... Warm regards, Roger
