I know that not just any crime can be used as the basis for a RICO prosecution. I know that kidnapping, dealing in obscene material, and I believe prostitution are offenses covered by RICO. Does anyone know if statutory rape applies?
If it does, what would the believers, or anyone else, on this board think if the Feds stepped in and applied the RICO Act to the FLDS Church, and it resulted in the forfeiture of the FLDS Church's properties and funds? Is there some worry that this would represent a precedent that they fear, given that the FLDS Church is a church, and people are committing these offenses because they believe themselves to be justified?
ps: and the mafia don't believe themselves to be justified somehow?

RICO and the FLDS - does it apply?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
