The church should realize by now that deceiving the public (and members) is not quite as easy as it used to be. Too much information is accessible.
Of course believers will think it is all anti-mormon lies, nevertheless, the truth is out there.

Yes Scully......:-)
I've always had a thing for Gillian Anderson.
Not that this matters in any way to this thread.
God . . . "who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, . . . and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him ..."
The church has put itself in a bind because they cannot completely disassociate themselves from their embarassing past without denouncing their revered prophets. They simply cannot say that polygamy was wrong because it is a canonized revelation. The best they can do is say the FLDS are not Mormons, which is technically true in that they define "Mormon" as the CofJCofLDS based in SLC. The best approach would've been to say something like "the FLDS are practicing early Mormonism, but we the LDS have moved past that, abaondoned the embarassing doctrines, and are practicing new and improved modern Mormonism." But the LDS leaders would never say anything that would cast a negative light on the early church because they revere it just as much as the FLDS, and any criticism of early church doctrine would call into question the character of the early prophets.

"It's wrong to criticize leaders of the Mormon Church even if the criticism is true." - Dallin H. Oaks
