Argh. This is so frustrating!

My parents do not think I left to hurt them, but I cannot get them to stop blaming themselves. Because of teachings of the Church, they see my apostasy as stemming from a previous failure on their part. Especially my mother believes that if they had just prayed more, or read the scriptures more, or done more family home evening they could have avoided it.

It is all very sad really. The Church really does not help people deal with the emotional baggage that it creates itself.

They need to read up on that atonement thing.

This is precisely the reason I kept my adult beliefs and apostasy to myself (away from parents and sibs) for as long as possible. They probably assumed it was shame, but it was because I knew they would feel that it was failure on their part, just as John Larsen says.

My parents always took great pride in the fact that they had raised 13 children, and every one of them stayed faithful to the church. They were often held up for praise in the ward for that very reason. That perfect record was their measure for success in life. I'm sure it's little comfort to say that "12 out of 13 ain't bad."

I spoke on the phone with them, and we are doing better. They honestly and truly felt that my husband didn't care whether they lived or died.

We've talked and things seem to be better. They are coming this weekend. I'm hoping for a fun weekend!

What they need to read is D&C. Having been through the temple, I'm set as long as I don't kill any innocent person.

Not set really. Even if you read it your way you get to spend your time from death till whenever in hell. Not a good deal by my understanding.

No, Joseph said the Telestial glory isn't that bad. Jesus said hell made him tremble at the thought of it. Also, Jesus had the advantage of being a God and being able to compress more into a shorter period. Not sure if you have that capability. But hey, gamble if you wish.

I'm sorry. In hungarian, there is no equivalent word of "telestial", even "Telestial".
Interestingly, for this reason, in hungarian "scriptures" there wasn't translated that words celestial and terrestrial as heavenly and earthly.
They are left unchanged.
Most of the members pronounce ALL OF them as _hwehwestial_ (or something similar), that is, they don't know what they are talking about and they don't want to confess it.

Moreover, the spell checker on this site doesn't know this word.
