Prophet deceives
Some one on the board directed us to an interview with GBH and a German journalist in 2006. I forget who, but "thanks". I found it most interesting and revealing--a Revelation, so to speak :-)
Interesting to watch a PR person pontificate, none too humbly, about the greatest of the Mormon institution. Its magnanimity, generousity and wanting to be friends to, and with all religions so they can "...learn what we have to offer them..." Or words to that effect. Not, what they can offer us; what we can learn from them...
GBH's dodge re the Blacks question was quite artful. As was his response re Financial Disclosure, albeit most deceptive as, no one is given a to-members-only Financial Statement as he implied.
Worse, re LDS Democratic Model, Prophet, Seer & Revelator, GBH stated in no uncertain terms "...the Church is a model of Democratic practices. The Members take part in administering all church programs, as leaders and participants... Nothing more Democratic..."
(I was reminded of another TV interview, "...I NEVER had sex with that woman...")
Did GBH purpposely intend to lie? Or was he simply ignorant? Did he not know that the identifying practice/principle of Democracy is to nominate and vote--to make one's election made sure that it is not appointed not nepotisticly attained :-)?
It was obvious that GBH exploited the interviewers lack of LDS knowledge. Or was the interviewer just too gracious to call GBH on his misrepresentation in public?
Is it known whether GBH ever made a public apology for his lie, as did that other interviewee?
Oh, IF-ONLY LDSism was Democratic and not Totalitarian. Might be a better place... Roger

Lying for the Lord is a time-honored practice. Even Abraham did it.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Sort-a-like, the end justifies the means? Yeah, old Abe set a poor example; lying and cheating all the time. Still getting us in trouble. That's why I have disclaimed him as having anything to do with my ancestry... I'm blue-eyed ;-)
Seriously Harm, as an older & wiser guy, I can't believe how anyone can continue to pay into such absurdities. But then again folks pay billions into street drugs. I guess if a person has the need, eh? Now, IF it had anything to do with Jesus' good advice... But that comes free. Hear it & do it. No dues attached to found-truth. Ya just pays to get. Ya knowadimsayin?

Well, there is a somewhat democratic process in that you get to sustain your leaders, and if you have any reason for believing that they should not hold the position, you are allowed to voice your concern.

Scottie, assuming you are serious???? OK. But a member is powerless, as in any other Totalitarian or Fascist regime to choose. That is what Democracy offers that a Dictatorship does not. Even in CUBA's one party Government, voters can choose between party members. We don't even have that priveledge in Mormonism. Imagine what might happen to BKP and some others, IF Mos had THAT democratic practice.
Are you aware that in other Churches members (nonRC) elect Board members who will serve as Secretary, Treasurer, etc. etc?? A Board can also expell a Pastor, or an officer...

Of course you are right. First, the membership would NEVER vote against God's elect. Second, there is barely enough democracy that GBH can say they follow a democratic process without outright lying.

If there is no secret ballot, there is no democracy. And there's no secret ballot in the church, and certainly nothing that looks even remotely like a democratic voting process.

I wish i could be give you better directions BCS, but I'll try. They are recorded in an interview a German journalist had with GBH in 2006 when SLC hosted The Games.
It was brought to MDB member attention a few weeks ago by, I think the Collegiate (?), I picked it up later, and was most disappointed by GBH's answers. It might have been on Utube?
Hopefully some reader will come up with the link--PLEASE!!
