For Mr. Lloyd from the Scott Gordoan Thread

Though he acknowledges it probably wouldn't help much in discussions with the person who is leaving the church, Gordon does make a valid -- and rather obvious -- point: Claiming that the church is hiding things that one found while reading church books is, well, a tad self-contradictory.

Gordon may state this but I am skeptical. I wonder what issues and what Church books he and the email correspondent is referring too? I highly doubt one will find the details of Polyandry, Adam God, Blood atonement, post manifesto polygamy, the debacle with the Kirtland Bank, the evolution of the priesthood in the early church or the details of changes in revelations from the BoC to the D&C. Can you give me examples of Church written books that lay these out?

I am not sure how much Scott Lloyd posts here but I am reposting this in hopes of a response. Lloyd took time to point out what he thinks is obvious-that one can find details about Church history that my be among the more difficult issues while reading Church books.

I ask again for examples of Church books that discuss the things I mention above in my earlier post. Mr. Lloyd I anxiously await your response.

Obviously I'm not Mr. Lloyd. But i recently picked up a number of older LDS books from a deceased's library, that I think, would make a thinking person seriously think about the Divine Guidance of Mormomism. A boast of the church not at all necessary to validate the fact that, as Churches go, the Mormon Church has good programs. That being more the result of good management technique than anything...

The book, Prophets, Principles & National Survival (Newquest) is one such book.
CR 1964, its writing re Blacks combined with those of [u]The Church & The Negro[/u], (JL Lund) CW 1967, in my opinion are stark, and dark evidence of non-inspiration in that matter.

Also in the first book the chapters on War & Peace, Capital Punishment, Birth Control and its general rhetoric just left me aghast. There are also the two volumes of Doctrines of Salvation (McKonkie, 1954/5) that are JF Smiths sermons & writings that tend to impress me more with their style than their substance. Although in my opinion, that seems the trend with most LDS GA's writing... Hope this helps??
