Brack, I'm afraid I'll have to redefine that:

One man - 33 women.

Hi There Ray A,

I very much strongly disagree with that definition of Marriage, of one man and 33 woman. I am very Anti-Polygamy. I believe in the Teachings of the Book of Mormon on Polygamy, Where the Book of Mormon Condemns the Practice of Polygamy.
Here is the Scriptural Passage from Jacob Chapter two, verses 24-28, Within the Book of Mormon:

Jacob 2:

[23] But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son.

[24] Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.

[25] Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.

[26] Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.

[27] Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;

[28] For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.

Polygamy is already illegal and Prohibited, Within the State Constitution of Arizona. (1)

By the way, one of the most interesting things to come out of my discussion with my bishop last night on the phone was that he disagreed vehemently that polygamy was still LDS doctrine. He believes, apparently, and claimed to me over the phone, that the Manifesto actually kills off polygamy as doctrine, and doesn't just suspend it's practice.

This came up in the context of me pointing out to him how ironic it is that Mormons are trying to enshrine in the state constitution a prohibition of a type of marriage that is actually still LDS doctrine, albeit not currently practiced.

That is, in theory, if the LDS Church were actually true, and Elohim one day called Jehovah to ask Peter, James, and John to go down to the man Thomas Monson and instruct him to resume the practice of polygamy, the LDS Church would then have to try to push another state proposition through to eliminate the "one man and one woman" definition so that polygamy could be practiced. It's just possible that the other Christians in Arizona, plus the Mormons, make up enough people to pass through the gay marriage ban - just how likely is it that the Mormons, all by themselves, could reverse this definition, with the rest of the Christians in the state all in an uproar about it?

My bishop's answer? We'll deal with that if it ever happens. In other words, "take no thought for what ramifications the law you push for today may have on LDS practice tomorrow - just stick it to those damn gays today!"
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
