You missed my point.

If those with an alternative lifestyle want a marriage certificate that adds credibility to their love, commitment and conviction to one another other, they would be ahead by starting a religeon in order to accomplish it. It worked for Smith (although he abused the priviledge and was killed because of that abuse).

The difference is that those with alternative lifestyles are requesting a marriage with one life partner, to be true to that one partner for life. A commitment that many of them are truly sincere about. A concept I have great respect for when people are honest about it. Smith, on the other hand, had no intention of keeping his marriage vows - making a mockery of what I hold most sacred.

I've had a ring on my finger since my temple marriage over 20 years ago. I love my wife and will yet remain true to her. I resigned from the church because the church did not represent me, nor could I represent a church started by a man that broke his marriage vows. A man even his one legal wife could not trust.

Seems like you're the one missing the point. The state recognizing a marrriage does not in any way add credibility to love, commitment, or conviction. You and your partner most not be committed or love each enough if you think that a license is going to cement that.
