With both Joseph and Brigham saying people lived on the moon, how do you know what reality is and what false reporting and lies are?
The same people who now discount what was said by splitting hairs and arguing about which witness was witless and which was reliable..., and under what circumstances they were reliable and which they were just clueless idiots, have no clue. We have the written record to go on and that is what we read.
Joseph taught it to his followers. Some current Church leaders believe it. How convenient to pick and choose what is 'correct' depending on how it squares with how you want the world to be and whether or not Joseph was a joker rather than a liar.
To whom are pointing your remarks, squawkeye?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
Wilford Woodruff, Heber C. Kimball, George A. Smith, Levi Hancock, Moses Martin, and Reuben McBride all recorded the find in their journals. None of them ever said Joseph was joking. Some said Joseph had a vision that gave him the information. Joseph even wrote to Emma(one of the many) and specifically mentioned finding Zelph.
Sure doesn't sound like someone just playing a practical joke, does it?
Josephs statements on many topics sure could be practical jokes, couldn't they? Like taking Orson Hydes wife and 'providing' for her while he sent Orson to Israel to take the holy land? What a joker Joseph was and Orson got stuck with the kid Joseph and Marinda produced. I bet he laughed every time he saw the kid.

Oh, I doubt it was a practical joke. I also doubt any of it was inspired.
