Actually I have no problem with the doctrine of all people who end up in the CK getting equivalent rewards. After all, my understanding of the process in the theology is that the reward is not for what one has done, but for what one has become. If that's true, then what does it matter if one person became that earlier than another? In the end, they both had become what was necessary, and would inherit equivalently in the CK.

I have no problem with that theology at all. Just the prodigal son parable doesn't teach that, and also, it's not true, since there is no CK at all. But it makes for some nice wishful thinking, and "works" as theology.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Tommy wrote:Thank you for sharing that message with us today, home teacher. I feel that you are one of the choice spirits our Father in Heaven placed on this earth to sojourn during these most difficult times.

As we celebrate the birth of Christ this year, let him be first on our Christmas shopping lists. Let us be generous in our tithes to him, and from what we might have left shall we take for the giving of gifts to each other.

I too can testify to the power of tithing. Last year, a close relative of ours, a good and conservative man -- an executive by trade -- found himself out of work. Without a job, he expected to lose one of his homes in the mountains of Colorado which for years has served as a retreat for family and close friends for a couple weeks during the christmas season. He expressed to me his concern one night during a private phone conversation. I asked him if he'd been paying his tithing. he replied that he had and would do so willingly, no matter what the consequences. I assured this good brother, and relative, that things would work out.

The Lord opened the windows of heaven for this man. Within two weeks, a contract had opened in the City Creek area for a project relating to a most significant building project, and he was selected as a consultant. Because of this fantastic opportunity, he not only saved his home, the one in Colorado, but was able to expand it with an additional wing. And because this position allowed him to work remotely, he was able to enjoy an additional two weeks in that home. Some of the brethren and myself were able to visit and enjoy a meal there one evening.

God will not be mocked, his rewards and punishments are very real.

Does anyone know who Tommy is referring to? I mean, is any of this public information?

But did the prodigal become everything he would have become by not being prodigal? In other words can I become in one tear session and confession what I became paying 10% a month my entire life? Are we not just substituting the word "to do" for "to become"?

On the one hand they want to tell us now that what we do "today" means something and has consequences "tomorrow", but when "tomorrow" comes we're told that yesterday no longer matters. Am I the only one who sees this as a logical contradiction and false?

Methinks both "Home Teacher" and "Tommy" are sock puppets of another poster or posters here.

Home Teacher, I want those big economic blessings too. Sign me up for extra tithing. Do you take Visa?

Moshka is it Church doctrine that paying tithing more often than not results in earthly economic benefit to the tithe payer. They sure seem to let on like it does. Would you feel ethically justified in preaching this? I certainly felt pressured on more than one occasion to preach that paying tithing often results in economic benefit. I personally believe it rarely does if ever. Would that be against Church doctrine to believe as I do?

I'm not interested in who Home Teacher and/or Tommy may be. I'm interested in who Tommy is referring to... the guy with the home in CO?
