Hypocrisy is always relevant when discussing moral issues.
Hypocrisy aside, Wade single status is relevant in other respects.
If its true that Wade is a never married 50 plus Mormon male, then he is a classic example of how Mormons think that gays should live out their lives.
Wade is in the unique position to shed light on his theory that society benefits if Gays chose to live a solitary existence, rather than enter into long term committed relationships with members of the same sex.
Additionally, if Wade is gay, but won't admit it publicly, then how does that square with the claim that the LDS Church loves gays, but hates the sin. If closeted, apparently Wade would rather be viewed by his community as a pathetic loser, who is incapable of convincing a sweet spirited sister to settle for him, than as a stoic homosexual, abstaining from intimacy in deference to God's higher law.
