why me wrote:
Again, people forget just how racist and ethnic american society was in the 60's and 70's. It was also not encouraged to marry outside the faith, and I am referring to protestants and catholics. The irish, poles and italians all intermarried because of the faith. When I was a boy, very few catholics would marry protestants and it certainly wasn't encouraged.

Interracial marriage was more serious. I remember my mom giving me permission to marry a chinese girl but never would she accept a puerto rican or black. And she wasn't Mormon. Interracial marriage was very frowned upon in american society both within the white and black community. It was a two way street.

I don't see anyone forgetting the racism of the past. In fact it is evidence that the church was no different then other churches, and even a little worse considering the priesthood ban. Just another man-made religion, uninspired and way behind the rest of society when it came to change.

I think that's the real problem that keeps stirring the pot. Nothing you could do or say would ever stop some people from shouting and howling about the racism of the past. It's something that is rammed down the throat of every child from grade school until every time he watches the news throughout his life. Then people like myself start a backlash and the fight goes on. On a smaller personal level, it's weird how many black people I can sit and talk with, exchange favors, and enjoy their company. But then I watch mainstream liberal news start shaming the white race and I start hating them.

Morgan Freeman said it best when someone asked what we needed to do with the racial tensions in this country. He replied, "The sooner you stop talking about it, the sooner it will go away."
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I think it'd be fair to say that the LDS leadership promotes a mindset where they would prefer people marry within the LDS faith than within their respective races. There's certainly more emphasis and repetition of the mantra to marry within the faith than a single line of counsel to marry within your race, a counsel that comes right alongside a counsel to marry within your socioeconomic situation. There is all kinds of discrimination going on when people choose a mate. In my view the level of discrimination we employ in marriages is much more shrewd, selfish, and cold than what we would see as ethical to employ in our business practices or hiring practices. What was the quote?

"All is fair in love and war."
