You mean ignore the behavior of recommend holding, apologist, church representative Dr. John L. Lund (travelling business partner of Daniel C. Peterson) of BYU and his groups of Mormon souvie hunters!
Is this damage control to fade the heat from all of the grave robbing the Mormons have alegedly been complacent in?
First they rob the dignity of the Jewish dead by baptising them into Mormonism by proxy (after be told not to ad nauseum), now they may be stealing the sacred relics that surround what's left their ancestors bodies.

What a pity Elder Holland didn't give that advice to the Bishops who suppressed knowledge of child abuse in the Susan Brock case...

If the gentile neighbors of the early saints were good and kind neighbors and obeyed and sustained the law, the history of the early church would have been different and we would have seen a different Joseph Smith. Joseph was living in a time when the reaction of the gentiles were quite extreme. The gentiles did not sustain the law when it came to the early Mormons.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

Neither did the Mormons sustain the law when it came to the gentiles.

So you are saying a different Smith would not have broken the law and it was the gentiles that had that power to control his actions. What laws did the gentiles make him break?
Actually, why me, exchanges with you are a waste of time. So don't bother.

Odd how Mormon types were not liked in ANY location they moved to, isn't it?
How many other religious groups have this problem in the US?

The timing of this visit I think is no accident— it's a direct response to the Arab Spring.
It's interesting that Holland is telling people to 'obey, honor and sustain' existing law. Does this advice mean that LDS from the middle east who want to follow the prophet should not take part in any of the protests aimed at gaining freedoms..??? Should they observe the curfews and submit to the government.
To me this is odd though for the Church which talks so much about freedom and agency to promote submission to governments that do not allow their citizens basic freedoms. I don't think they need to encourage such behavior but to suggest against it seems unneccessary. The Church took a similar approach in eastern block countries prior to 89. It certainly helps them with the governments of countries where they want to remain. The Church likely is taking a long term diplomatic approach hoping to remain regardless of what goes down.
To me though it seems kind of self-serving for LDS leaders from the US (the West) who have known freedom all his life to tell people in the Middle East to obey, honor and sustain. Like I said I wouldn't encourage unrest an protests in the Mid East. The people there need to choose change on their own— but many of these people are ruled by corrupt leaders/monarchies that are enriching themselves at the peoples expense...and then they crack down on them when the people ask for change. It's hard to see a good reason to "obey, honor, and sustain' that. I wouldn't blame people in the ME if they choose to not do that. Maybe Holland is talking to a lot of ex-pats from other nations working the ME and not the citizens of Bahrain etc.
FYI. Holland split a Stake in Manama. Here's the type of stuff you could 'obey, honor and sustain' there these days.
