What is with Mormons and the US Constitution? I hear the wackiest discussions/claims when I sit around and talk with Mormons about the US Constitution, such as God helped author the Constitution, the Constitution should never change, and the founding fathers were divinely guided (lets not forget the conspiracy theories that subsequently follow such as NWO, illuminati, etc).
Are there Mormons in other countries that discuss their Constitution or equivelent documents in the same manner? This leads to the theory that Mormonism really is an American religion.
Why do Mormons believe that the Constitution needs to remain unchanged? Have they not heard of progress such as deleting the 3/5 vote passage?
Why is the US the promised land? Would not a place such as switzerland where quality of life is much better be considered the promised land?
Why the ethnocentric patriotism of Mormons? If you are Mormon is not everyone a child of God?
I know these are sweeping generalizations and therefore I welcome Mormons who think otherwise to speak up in this thread. Perhaps restore my faith.

Re: Mormons and the US Constitution
Yes, the D&C attributes the US Constitution as "divinely inspired",which, by definition would make it scripture...though Mormonism doesn't call it part of their canon.
In addition, there are:
- Smith's "White Horse Prophecy"
- the Mormon American-centric idea/belief of America as the promised land (Zion)
- Utah Mormon anti-Federalism - rooted in the Mormon idea/belief of persecution
- Cleon Skousen and the Freeman Institute
- Glenn Beck (who has taken up Skousen's banner)
