Upon the Apocalrock: My visit with James Muir

A real treat for me Mr Stakhanovite. Did not feel like I was under the microscope even slightly. You are a cool customer. Most kind of you to mention this. You were not telling me much about yourself so I will take that for a 'tell' next time and get a clue that I am being observed.

I took a press release to a news service and the lady there was ga ga for The Apocalrock. She saw everything instantly and bought two books. Sheesh! Next day I went over to get a bid on a large sign that will be in a lighted box on the side of the building. That lady lives on the next mountain to the North with The Apocalrock right there with her everyday. She even got more excited than the NEWS lady and acted thrilled to meet me. Even wanted to shake my hand. Sheeshamundo! I might have something here. You don't think its just my hands do ya?

Get up to Eastwood Elementary on the East most end of 3300 South in Salt Lake between 6:30 and 9 AM and observe the approaching Summer Solstice lighting up The Apocalrock with golden ribbons outlining the little tyke who is getting the circumcision by the Abraham figure with two blades drawn out. Should be at least three more weeks of it before the Sun retreats back to the South and you have to wait another year.

“Rivers will clap hands; together mountains will sing praises” croons the Psalmist (98:8) and that’s a theme that runs all through James’ work. To James, this is God’s world, and we should expect to find his artistry anywhere. Indeed, Paul says in Romans, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20 NIV), should it not be obvious that God has carved some images into Mount Olympus in Utah? Perhaps. If the scriptures are to be believed, it’s not only possible, it is plausible.

It was in fact my own psalm singing in the Summer mornings of 2008 in Sugar House Park, calling forth Zion by faith, that fixed my attention to unfold the mystery of the Stone Cut Out Of The Mountain Without Hands. How better can a mountain sing than by its own sign language of shapes, shadows and snow.
