For a little while now I have been thinking that UC would be a great fit for my son for several reasons, and I have begun preparing him for the.... uniqueness... of the environment. But that decision is a few years away and children have the maddening habit of doing the opposite of what we say is best for them. And they have the gall to claim they have good reasons for their decisions!! What the...?
I have 2 kids in college: one at Utah State, and one at BYU. My middle son will be a senior this coming year, and he's done well enough that he's getting a lot of stuff from big-time universities. I think he still wants to go to Texas A&M, but then he has a girlfriend who is planning on BYU. We'll see what happens.

The reason being, of course, that you are a colossal weenie.
and have attended only two or three games as a member of the faculty (because, each time, I was invited to accompany substantial donors, and sat in the president's box).
How interesting. Now I wonder: were you there to tickle the fancy of donors interested in Middle Eastern Studies? Or, rather, were they interested in apologetics? The mind reels....

KA, I think that SLU, U of Chicago, and Northwestern would all be fantastic choices. The two of these I know the best are SLU and NW, and they're both fantastic schools. Northwestern is sort of like an Ivy League school in the Chicago area, and the nice thing about going there is that your girl would get connected to a really powerful network of alums, which in some regards is every bit as important (if not more so) than the actual education she'll be getting.

There can be a variety of positions for graduates in theology. Some do theology and then do a post graduate degrees in counsellling. Some workfor christian publishing houses, as chaplains in the armed forces, schools, industrial chaplains, hospital chaplains. Some universities in Australia like Charles Sturt one can do a degree with a minor in theology and a major in any other field or the reverse. Some combine theology with urban or international studies and work for a christian NGO.

I wasn't a big football fan until I went to college, where it was a cheap date for a Saturday. I still get season tickets to BYU football, as I don't think there's anything wrong with cheering for my alma mater. My brother-in-law has to sit in one of those boxes during every game, schmoozing with donors. He hates it because he has to wear a suit and tie, can't see or hear much of anything, and misses most of the game because people want to talk about the school, not the team. He said the worst is the U of U game because all these GAs come to the game and root for the U. He ends up watching the game on his DVR when he gets home. I think I'd rather have my crappy end-zone seats than do what he has to do.

Sounds scholarly, but can you trust a school that does not have clogging competition? Might be best to stick with BYU and merely read The Great Books series as a vicarious taste of the University of Chicago.
