I think the OP is an excellent rebuttal to what has become known as the "Gadianton Turn". Certain apologists have given up on trying to defend the Book of Mormon as history and have turned instead towards defending its literary merits. Even then, as Dean Robbers points out, this poses a problem, since the quoted passage reads, at best, like cut-rate Danielle Steele.

Sorry for absence. Dealing with a personal problem.
That subplot that Gad brought up also sounds Shakespearian, which dovetails nicely with my theories. Currently looking for more. Will get back to you later.
