I have reservations about these commercials.

It seems to be a continuation of the "normalizing" of the LDS Church.

For the past several decades, we have been putting out the message that the Mormon Church is the same as any other Christian church.

Now phase two will focus on the members, saying that Mormons are the same as anybody else (only way cooler).

I think the idea must be to make Mormons and Mormonism more approachable to non-members.

But at the same time we seem to be eliminating any reason for non-Mormons to be interested.

Thoughts?

All the Best!

To me, the commercials look more defensive in nature rather than offensive. In other words, I seriously doubt that these commercials would cause anybody to join the church, and I further doubt that that is the intention. Rather, they are hoping that it will help people who are already members feel more proud about their religion and not quit as readily.

For outsiders, "Mormon" has a lot of negative connotations. If this ad series just gets people to be neutral about Mormonism rather than negative towards it, it will be considered a huge success.

I knew very few women in my age group during the 70's who were married with kids and didn't work, at least part time. And I don't recall anybody saying anything about it. I don't see how they can bitch about it in these times, when just having anybody in the home with a job is a blessing.

One word describes that profile: limp.

That's a good word for it.

Surely John Dehlin is not as boring as his "I'm a Mormon" profile.

Or maybe he's shilling to get his podcast link posted on the website. YEah, that's probably it.

Amen, Sister. (although I'm never surprised when they bitch about just about everything)
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
