Positive things the LDS Church has done

The LDS Church has donated an industrial strength ice machine to a tsunami flooded Japanese village and rebuilt a Shinto Shrine.

I get the ice machine, but why the Shinto Shrine? From the LDS point of view, isn't that just encouraging apostasy?

I think Shinto involves ancestor worship and that would jive with LDS genealogical practices.
