Maybe merging with the cosmos is a better choice.

Don't forget to have a nice chianti with that dinner.

(I'm not normally so cynical, but on this topic I just can't help it.)
Well I highly doubt they would do this... Wouldn't I just be able to jump off a cliff or something with my robotic body. Couldn't I just not plug myself in at night and kill myself that way?
I think there would be many ways out of being enslaved forever. Plus a wipe wouldn't hurt much on a robotic body.

I hate to argue with the good Dr. Lechter, but he may have made an error here. I've never found a REALLY good chianti.
Some of it is not bad, but I think of it as "pizza" wine. Not much complexity. If he was having a "special" meal (made from a door to door surveyer) and wanted to go Italian, he should have gone with a Brunello di Montalcino or a Barbaresco.
The value of cannibalism rests mostly on your choice of wine.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Well, since the phenomenon of apparent consciousness/awareness appears to exist now, it seems to follow that the phenomenon of consciousness/awareness has always existed, even from the materialist's standpoint.
Since to the materialist/naturalist, consciousness is a product of brain function, an emergent property of synapses firing, an exact replica of brain circuitry should recreate an identical awareness. Isn't it feasible that an advanced civilization could replicate brain function in synthetic circuitry, and then take it further by somehow encoding it on a medium, say, magnetically....or even at the atomic level?
And if technology was able to encode this brain function on a yet to be discovered medium, and this separate little packet of information could survive through Eco-system and universe cataclysm, for all intents this packet would appear as if it were indeed an eternal soul....Right?
