We learn about the great Nephite Chemish in Omnni 1:9.
Omni 1: 9 Now I, Chemish, write what few things I write, in the same book with my brother; for behold, I saw the last which he wrote, that he wrote it with his own hand; and he wrote it in the day that he delivered them unto me. And after this manner we keep the records, for it is according to the commandments of our fathers. And I make an end.
I guess Joseph Smith wasn't in the mood to come up with a good story for Chemish. I wonder how long he struggled with this character. Let's see, we'll name him Chemish. He has a brother. And he watched his brother write. And...oh screw it, let's get something to eat.
"We have taken up arms in defense of our liberty, our property, our wives, and our children; we are determined to preserve them, or die." - Captain Moroni - 'Address to the Inhabitants of Canada' 1775
~Those who benefit from the status quo always attribute inequities to the choices of the underdog.~Ann Crittenden ~The Goddess is not separate from the world-She is the world and all things in it.~
Remember though that the words of Chemish were so vital that God required them to be engraved on gold plates, protected from capture, hauled across the continent, hidden for generations and subsequently translated by a modern day Prophet so that we Latter Day Saints may profit from their wisdom.
