I quickly scanned the article, disappointed that it wasn't a bit longer. The topic is so fascinating and in my opinion has yet to be really delved into, though you can find some interesting work on it here and there. Take for example the case of Jane Manning James which harmony asked about and justme provided some information on. Her story is an interesting one and I think we could round up a list of what scholarly work exists on her or where her story is mentioned. One interesting chapter that I only remember slightly, concerns the problems that were encountered, I think in the 80's?, when a group of BYU students were putting on a play based on her experiences. Perhaps someone else remembers the details of this incident. Also, if I am not mistaken, her descendants still live in SLC.

(by the way, this reminds me of one of my more ambitious ideas for MDB: producing a collective annotated bibliography of sources on Mormon history/studies. I think this needs to be a bit more organized than just a haphazard pinned thread, but once the form was in place it would be something we could all add too (it could even be an off site wiki linked to from here). If you're interested in such a project in any capacity, please pm me or mention it in when I'm usually in chat in the evenings. marg to the contrary, I am extremely overextended at the moment, but I could, at least provisionally, be the lead archivist on such a project. Although the project would be a collective one, I think it has to have someone/ones in some kind of directorship position at least initially to get the thing off the ground, and possibly even after as it progresses to provide coherence and organization. But those are all details to talk further about.)

HERE, we are talking about GOD's only true church.
And about the members.
And about the doctrine. (if there is such thing...)

My point is race problems persist in places beyond church. Of course race problems will occur within a Church if race problems persist in the larger realms of influence.

The wicked world realized that race problems were problems long before the church. How do you explain that?

This is easily explained by recognising God's hand in all things Mormon.
God wants blacks discriminated against, as evidenced by Mormonism per 1978 and also some of it's teaching and scriptures.

The world doesn't have to worry about what God wants so it is free to end discriminatory practices whenever it chooses.

What's to explain? The problems persist today. Just because some realized there were problems before others does not mean the others lack inspiration from God, at least I don't see any reason to think so.
