Can you think of any LDS whose negativity towards others approaches that of the Nazis? Not even one?

You should alter your statement to read "one" instead of "many".

Samanta,

you're just full of surprises. Well, yes, if you post what i recommend on MDD you will get banned because there are three things the mods over there hate: Criticizing the Church for any reason whatsoever, backing up any reasons for criticizing the Church with historical facts, and having an advanced degree while disagreeing with the Church. Why do you think The Dude and Tarski have had issues?

Anyway, I know nothing about TPOLA so what can I say? Mr. Russell smoked a mean pipe and looked very serious, as a career academic and Dean of the most important Mopologetics-related university on the planet, I find a lot of inspiration in his style.

Yes I have been trying to find out more about Cassius University. Do you guys have a webpage? Or any spots for visiting faculty?

As for Russell, he has definitely been a huge inspiration to me as well. If you like his other work you should definitely check out TPOLA, it's transcribed from a series of lectures he gave on what (eventually) he explains are the insoluble, foundational problems with any account of language that seeks to relate linguistic 'atoms' (i.e. irreducible units of language) to real external objects in the world. He references "his good friend Wittgenstein" several times and expresses how afraid he is for his life (Ludwig was fighting in the Great War at the time). Russell obviously had an influence on the Tractatus, but the interesting thing about TPOLA is how it seems to have facilitated Wittgenstein's move to the position in the Philosophical Investigations. I would say it is closer to the former than the latter in terms of its content but it definitely constitutes a departure from the more rigidly formal/mathematical account of language we can see in the Principia, and foreshadows a lot of what he says about the limits of language and analysis in Human Knowledge.

Here is a typical exchange between Cassius scholars, made available for the public enlightenment: look, and learn ...

I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Nope. And I live among them every day.

You maligned the entire church membership when you said "group".
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Out of context, Harmony. You have never participated at MAD (MDD), then.

However, there are those naïve, sincere believers who have never questioned, and honestly try to live an ethical life within their LDS cultural context. I did forget about them, but with the Internet, I honestly believe that their numbers are dwindling fast. Many of them are limited by reason of lack of access to the internet, and maybe limited literacy.

Fortunately a Monty Python sketch came up in the side bar. I went immediately to that.
