Ironically, the unspoken assumption in this thread directed toward the infidels is that Mormonism has any particular answer to the question.

It doesn't.

The demigod worshiped by Mormons is part of the universe, not the originator of it. He exists in time and space and organized matter that was already here using forces that preceded his godhood (obedience to the principles by which those forces operate is how he became god).

The Plan of Salvation says that gods attain godhood over time through linear steps (birth, mortal life, righteous living, death, resurrection, and then onward and upward). This schema ultimately leads to the question of how the first god became a god. I posted about this a while ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15663

Mormonism has absolutely nothing to say about why anything exists at all. Its mythos simply adds more layers to the question.

Not only this, but the infinite regress of gods in Mormonism (both forward and backward) of which our current god is apparently only one link in the chain adds on a great deal more complexity than just having one unexplained god.

Well, sort of---I have made similar points many time before to no avail.

Similarly, Mormonism cannot coordinate with the concerns of intelligent design since according to Mormonism, the basic seemingly designed aspects of the cosmos have always existed and those aspects are not the product of an intelligent mind.
Men, trees, planets, DNA, and nippled gods have always existed.

Th Mormon God isn't a creator--he is a procreator and a copier of handed down patterns.

In Mormonism, the mystery of the apparent design of this thing we call life is still a mystery. Evolution doesn't even help with the metaphysical problem since it can't explain the "design" as such (the "design" having had no origin!).
