Either way, I am glad the church spent a lot of money on a big downtown mall...a "City Center". I hope it contributes to the overall prosperity and dynamism of Salt Lake City and Utah.

As Utah goes, so goes the church, so investing in yourself is probably the best investment. Is a flashy mall worse than "prudent" investments...whatever those may be? Who knows?

I personally like the energy and vibrancy of big cities. I love the history and culture they have accumulated. I hope Salt Lake keeps striving for that big city feel.

What I find disconcerting is that the Church is spending ("investing") millions of dollars on this mall while at the same time, we, as tithe payers, are being told to tighten our belts. A current example is the decision to have the members clean their own buildings. Another example is those who are receiving help from the Bishops Storehouse being counseled to accept less food so that more families can be supported. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind helping clean our building. And, my father, who is disabled and in his 70's, receives help from the Bishop Storehouse. I am grateful for the help. However, I am sure you can see the incongruence here for those of us who faithfully pay our tithing.

There is no evidence tithing was used in the construction of the mall.

Members have always cleaned there own buildings, or helped the ward custodian - who is a member - clean it.

Another example is those who are receiving help from the Bishops Storehouse being counseled to accept less food so that more families can be supported. Don't get me wrong. Tithing is not being used to support the Mall, therefore, nothing would be absent the storehouses, which are supported by tithing funds.

Do we have evidence that LDS humanitarian aid is paid for by tithes?

Why should it matter? Humanitarian aid is not what tithing is for. Tithing is for the building of a literal Zion. Tithing is used to keep COB humming, BYUs running, and temples/churches building.
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

In other words, you have not the slightest idea whatever what tithing is for.

Being committed to the fantasy of a real Zion, Zeez, please explain how any of the above approach Zion even slightly. Thanks

And just what would Kishkumen, of all people, know about Zion, or about divinity, what is part of Babylon and what isn't, or spiritual things in general?

(Why is a shopping mall necessarily a part of "Babylon?" Why can't it just be a shopping mall? Is shopping necessarily evil? How should I go about getting the things I need to live and enjoy a materially comfortable life? If no shopping, then how, pray tell me? Should I make my own DVD player? Clothes? Shoes? luggage? dinnerware?)

Regardless of how certain I am that your Mormon Pride will not acknowledge my existence, I would rather like you to expound on Zion. Should I make it a challenge that you elucidate for us the first step that opens up a real and true Zion? Any clue what that is? Please favor us. Show us the line between the kingdom of this world and that of a REAL Zion. What's ya got?
