An atonement question

Post by _SteelHead »

If the scriptures teach in regards to the atonemnet

Hebrews 8: 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

That part of the forgiveness of the lord is for our sins to be forgotten.

How is it that the church's policies of not forgetting: "raising the bar policy", asking people applying for sealing permission to detail past sins including those resolved through priesthood authority, etc., then not constitute a blatant denial of the power of the atonement?

Gymnastics will ensue.....

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

Mormonism is largely about self-atonement through mental self-flagellation (see: Miracle of Forgiveness). Jesus' sacrifice amounts to filling out the final paperwork that gets you into heaven.

I don't need the atonement, I have a temple marriage instead...
