Ms Jack, what do you think about the authority of Paul? As I understand it, his authority came from his vision of the 'Risen Lord' rather than anyone ordaining him. He goes for long periods without even seeing the Apostles in Jerusalem, and rather than stop him, they seem to see that he is a useful link between gentiles and Jewish Christianity. The idea of a liberal approach to authority can be argued to go right back to Jesus himself, when he tells the apostles that those who baptize in his name should not be forbidden because the important thing seems from that text to be that they believe in Jesus word and want to change for the better?
Any thoughts on this?
