Temple Divorce and Sealings to Children Question

Post by _Mad Viking »

I'll be surprised if my soon to be ex-wife doesn't ask me for a temple divorce in a few years when she finally finds her worthy believing Mormon man. I don't have any reservations granting this to her other than a vague recollection I have of what happens to the sealing of my children at that point. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't believe in any of that stuff. However, what I do believe in is my wife's capacity to divorce herself from reality and use the potential sealing of my children to her new husband as a psychological weapon against me. My question is this: If my wife and I were to be temple divorced what happens to the "sealing" of my children? If she remarries in the temple, are my children "sealed" to her and her new husband?

I am concerned that if that sort of thing were allowed, it would be a way for her to drive a wedge between me and my children. Additionally, this would provide for a relationship with her new husband to my children that is sponsored by the church that seeks to edge me out.

If the children remain legally yours, they cannot be sealed to him.

Women have a much harder time getting a temple divorce than men.

Mormonism is a Cult and the temple ceremonies they use were stolen from the Masons. Both are phoney, both are fake - and are nothing more than fairy tales, smoke and mirrors. In other words, it's a bunch of crap and what Mormons do in their ultra secret ceremonies means absolutely nothing except to them. It's about the same as a pinky promise, really.

Think about a portly Daniel C. Peterson in a white jumpsuit with a green apron and a bakers hat, pantomiming the signs and the tokens.

Yeah, it's crap.

Somebody should film it, speed it up and put it to rap music.

But ultimately it comes down to legal rights of the parent. If they're sealed to you, they remain sealed to you.

Give her crap and don't grant her a temple divorce. That'll piss her off even more.

Here is the official policy in the latest CHI:

Children who are born in the covenant or sealed to parents remain so even if the sealing of the parents is later (1) canceled or (2) revoked by the excommunication or name removal of either parent.

Handbook 1, section 3.6.2, page 22

In order for your ex-wife to be sealed to another living man, she would have to first have her sealing to you "canceled." If that happens, under the above language, your children will remain sealed to you and her (and cannot be sealed to the new husband). Hope this helps.

Back in my TBM days, I was serving in a Bishopric and we had a guy who got married to a women who was sealed to another man. While they were working through her temple divorce they had a child. Her ex-husband refused to grant the temple divorce. My friend was later told that his new son was actually sealed to his wife and her ex-husband because they were still under the covenant. Needless to say, he was pretty pissed of. All the bishop could tell him was that "It would work out in the end"

I lost contact with him shortly after that. I wonder if he is still in. He was really pissed off

by the way, this is still the rule. Again, from the official CHI:

If a woman who has been sealed to a former husband remarries, the children of her later marriage are born in the covenant of the first marriage unless they were born after the sealing was canceled or after it was revoked due to excommunication or name removal.

Members who have concerns about the eternal nature of such relationships can find peace in the knowledge that Heavenly Father is loving and just. He will ensure that eternal family relationships will be fair and right for all who keep their covenants.

Do I have to? Yikes!

At this point, I’m not in the mood to be conciliatory.

Technically, yes. I suspect that they will take her side since she is the believing/active member.
