AAH, no. Are you applying autobiographical insight? :geek: However, sublimation does work wonders, as you well know.

I've heard many stories from gay LDS that they went on missions with faith that God would bless them with heterosexuality if they served a faithful mission. I assume some of the same delusional thinking is shared by other believers who have different (and in this case, harmful) inclinations they're trying suppress.

It is very sad that they have this belief. We all have our crosses to bear, and God judges according to how we bear them.

Yes, but, again, they are thoroughly screened, nowadays. Those who look for a place in life from which to exploit others are not gong to find it comfortable there, and are weeded out. Remember, psychology is more important in Catholicism than in Mormonism.

I hope the church has also made inroads to weeding out leaders who protect and shuffle around molesters.

IMHO, part of the problem was a naïve belief that repentance of the perps--
O MY GOD, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell; but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

would be sufficient. Instead, like your problem, it is a deeply seated predisposition. Not so simple. So they shuffled them around until it became apparent that they were repeaters.

They are still working on changing the strategy, and making progress, although the problem in other countries is only coming to light. Being a minority religion does have its advantages.
