OMIDs Uprise: A Tale of Unfortunate Events

Post by _lostindc »

As the main stream press begins to devour DCP et al. I have the unfortunate position of reporting that an OMID buildup is rising.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/54358137-78/mormon-institute-peterson-studies.html.csp

OMIDs led by Bill (Hothead) Hamblin and William (Decoder Ring) Schyrver have begun to fire shots at the new MI guard.

In a fit of rage and fury, Hothead Hamblin proceeds to display a level of outrage stating:

I note, for the record, that none of the editors except Dan has had any direct communication with Bradford about this decision. They were never informed that they have been dismissed. Indeed, Lou Midgley is out of the country on vacation, and does not have internet access, and has no idea what's going on. Even if this change is a good idea, treating people this way, after years of service, is simply shameful...I should also add that in any professional organization, the old editor is never released until the new editor has been chosen and is in place ready to editor. Furthermore, the old editor is always part of the committee to select the new editor. None of this is happening at the Institute.

Mr. Hamblin appears to be appealing to a potential volunteer army. Why else does Hamblin et al. feel the need to bring concerns to the public. Much like a missionary in the early 1900s, standing on a box in Hyde Park, shouting for walker-bys to listen, a call for arms is made to the readers of the humorously named Mormon Dialogue and Discussions Board. In no way does the old MI guard plan to bow out quietly and reverently.

In reply to Hothead Hamblin, Decorder Ring William chimes in linking an image of his opinion of the "Mormon Studies Review Editor Selection Committee, 2012."

A picture says a 1,000 words. This image is of no surprise to long time acquaintances of William Schyrver. Let us not forget, Decoder Ring William is a person who has a long history of sexual harassment thrusted upon female posters on MDB; but for William to imagine the new MI guard in this light is rather shocking and unsettling to the common reader.

My concern is building. I ask you dear readers: are these OMID personal attacks on the new MI a major concern? Are we sitting upon a fault line ready to shift? Will the OMIDs proceed to lead a bloody battle against the new MI guard? Is the new MI guard prepared for a bloody civil war? Could the new MI be as dirty as the old? Will Wade Englund get laid?

I am reminded of this.

Private Interpretations and Unorthodox Views

Elder Spencer W. Kimball stated: “There are those today who seem to take pride in disagreeing with the orthodox teachings of the Church and who present their own opinions which are at variance with the revealed truth. Some may be partially innocent in the matter; others are feeding their own egotism; and some seem to be deliberate. Men may think as they please, but they have no right to impose upon others their unorthodox views. Such persons should realize that their own souls are in jeopardy” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1948, 109).

William Schyrver is looking for some Ciphers to add to his collection.

I can arrange that for half the price.
