For those of you who think Church leaders have been pressuring anyone or exercising their authority unappropriately or exercising undue influence... they haven't:

Church spokesman Scott Trotter said in an email Monday that church leaders were not pressuring anyone or exercising their authority inappropriately.... "To suggest that this was an attempt by Church leaders to exercise undue influence is without merit," the email said.

I hadn't thought of the Romney angle, but this is exactly what people fear about a Mormon in the White House. Calling on the neighborhood opposition to step in line with the church based on an ecclesiastical demand is a difference in degree, not in kind, from "inviting" Romney to see things the church's way when/if president.
