As far as the American flag, maybe because it stands for FREEDOM? Got a problem with the flag?
Maybe he is happy. Lets see where he is at in 5 years or so. And I am sure that he wanted to leave the church at 12. I know that after making their confirmation, many young people stop attending the catholic church. It happens.
The flag is overused. To march up to a peak to resign from the LDS church carrying the ameican flag seems brainwashed to me.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

Here's the deal: if I did not have a testimony of the Book of Mormon, I would have never joined the LDS church. I cannot deny that testimony. However if I lost that testimony I would not feel depressed about it at all to leave the church. I would only feel depressed to leave with that testimony intact.

Look around...the american century is over. The downfall has begun. Greed killed the goose. And it started with the robber barrons of the 19th century.

The people looked like they have been out of the church for years. I saw no spirit in them. But I am sure that they are nice people. Good to see Jeff there giving john and his wife some support. I wonder if he marched up the hill.

Say that to a Vet's face, like me for example. Better yet, say it to any active duty military person's face. People that fought to defend that flag, fought and died so a weasel like you can hide behind a computer screen and say it's been over used.
That flag has never been over used, and never will be.
If you don't like it so much, get the hell out of America.

You mean like the Jesus Mall? That is the epitome of greed. You mean like the Kirtland banking scandal? You mean like good ol Joe ripping people off with his money digging?
