I deeply disagree with the entire approach of this OP. It defines belief and participation in Mormonism in entirely negative terms. Mormonism is a religious community, culture, and tradition. People belong to and participate in it in different ways. I don't like defining that in terms that assume the dishonesty of the participants and the illegitimacy of the religion.

I don't know you so I couldn't say.

I respect that. What I was talking about was those who know there are problems and twist themselves into knots to make things work.

So, Bob, what category do I fall in? I don't really see a category that applies to NOMs. I guess the Cafeteria Mormon category you described sort of fits, but not really, at least for me. I am well aware of the ACTUAL LDS doctrine. I just blatantly disagree with it at times. However, I have been known to defend the Church as well if I feel that it is being treated unfairly.

You disagree with doctrine that you acknowledge to be doctrine? That makes you, my dear woman, an apostate.
Rejoice!

I don't think NOMs count as apologists. Do you?
I defend the church when people misrepresent it but I am no apologist.
