No moderator had been online for the first 12 hours during the exchange. He logged on that morning, facing, I'm sure, his own "real life" demands as well, only to be faced with numerous complaints and long threads to read through to try and get to the bottom of the complaints. He had already indicated support for banning Darrick, but had told Shades he'd let him make the final call. He said he saw no additional danger in waiting, and I have to agree with him.
Now, did he get irritated by Jersey Girl's ultimatum? Probably. Do I blame him for that? Not particularly. Did he make her wait due to that irritation? I doubt it.
In the end, this was an unfortunate situation with a sad ending. But I don't think it's worth getting worked up over again. Jersey Girl is happy where she is, and doesn't want to come back. As I said earlier, Shades's libertarian method of running the board does have its costs, and we all have to decide whether or not it's worth it. I think she had mixed feelings about that, anyway.
One clarification to what you stated (which I have bolded):
This is what EA said to Jersey Girl that morning;
The moderators, and myself in particular, have anticipated Derrick behaving like this because he has shown various signs of mental illness and for lack of a better word, creepy behavior on the board. I have argued that when that behavior tips over into evidence of threatening or stalking like behavior, Derrick should be banned due to a few reasons, not the least of which is the security of board members. Dr. Shades has specifically requested that he be allowed to make the call on this, and I am willing to be deferential to that.
I have bolded the portion which is pertinent. EA didn't decide to let Shades make the final call, Shades had 'specifically requested' that he would make the final call if action was needed against Darrick. The reason why this is important has been mentioned in my posts on this thread.
edited to add one more point which is pertinent regarding EA's communications that morning; EA did not make that statement about Shades until AFTER the ultimatum was issued and acted on. He waited until the deed had been carried out to disclose the agreement with Shades. It's reasonable to believe that if EA had let Jersey Girl know he was bound by this agreement with Shades, she would have understood his refusal to act and waited for Shades to turn up. Unfortunately, he didn't tell her when it mattered-- and the rest is history.
That said, I'm happy to let this go, Thanks to those of you who were willing to listen and thanks again to Dr. Shades for allowing me and others to give Jersey Girl's side of what happened, here on his board. My opinion of him has suffered over his treatment of her, but the fact that he let us speak up in her defense unfettered, helped raise it somewhat.
Unless you wish to discuss this further I won't respond in detail to your post. I'll only add that if Jersey Girl's primary concern is with regards to being perceived that she would sue...I do believe she never would have nor intended to sue Shades or any mod.
Marg, That is her primary concern and I'll let Jersey Girl know what you said. Thanks.
